Silverline 633935 Hydraulic Trolley Jack 2 ton £15.49 (Prime exclusive) @ Amazon

I was just browsing for a cheap car jack and came across this this.
Prime exclusive. Cheapest it has been since 2011.
I am only using it to change my wheels over to winter ones for an up coming ski trip so needed something basic, easier than a scissor jack.
Could be a good stocking filler for someone.

Stocking filler! LOL!

Silverline is not a make that fills me with confidence, unfortunately.

Doesn't matter who's name is on the product - this is exactly the same as one sold/branded by Halfords, RAC, etc.
Do you distrust them any more?

It looks similar, but how do you know it's exactly the same? I'd expect all these generic jacks to look similar, just that the Silverline one will be made out of something with the strength of chocolate.

not a great case to highlight your arguments

It's been this price since July. It's definitely cheap, and I considered buying one. I've experienced Silverline quality (the complete lack thereof) once too often, though

Yeah, much better to go with the £32+ Draper to benefit from the more reliable colourscheme and convenience of a portable device that has the market-leading marvellousness of "Item Weight 70 Grams" amazon.co.uk/dp/…JQ/

It has to be made to a specification so that it can do the job it is designed to do.
Admittedly, you wouldn't want to find out it couldn't lift/support 2t the hard way but still....

It wasn't an argument - it was a question.

Buy one and test it for us all. If you never come back we'll know not to buy one hahaha

absolute crud I bought one last time they were on sale it struggles to lift my wifes city car.
its going to get converted into a bike lift and if it cant take the wait of a bike then it will retired to the great recycling heap in the sky.

Well I wouldget under my car with this holding it.
(yes I would use axel stands as well)

avoid this - I bought one a year ago - it broke after the 2nd use...2ND USE! - the metal is poor quality. One of the arms that attach to the side sheered off. I was only using it to jack up my Vauxhall Astra so not exactly pushing it to it's limits.

Yes, it's always wise to have the proper equipment when starting-out in figure-skating

Fun fact:

Silverline = Tin foil

Tin foil = twists like paper

According to their branding, does exactly as it says on the tin

To provide useful comment: I was given one last year. Used it a few times to lift front corner(s) of buddy's 1200kg camper. No issues. What weight did it lift at each corner? Maybe 400-500kg a time?
Other consideration of usefulness is the clearance (esp if vehicle has flat tyre) and also the lifting height. The neighbour had to drive his Astra wheel onto a plank of wood to get enough clearance to insert jack onto crosssmember (his choice: it would have lifted on the jacking point without extra height of wooden plank), the camper required a wood spacer to be inserted between the jack and the chassis. None of these considerations are unique to this product.

This looks identical to the trolley jack that came with my Halfords 5 piece lift kit in a different colour. It's 'alright'. It seems to be leaking from the piston though after a year of light use so definitely use axle stands.

Then get the wife out the car before trying to lift it. it can only sustain a 2 ton limit.

Hang on, are all these people jacking up their cars with it.. Sitting axle stands under but not lowering the jack!? Think they need to learn how to use a hydraulic jack :o. Regardless of price you never get under a car supported by a jack.

Had a draper well over 30 years old have a piece of cable to let it down. These cheap makes for stuff like this have to meet a standard and always use some bricks or wood for added support
