Usual advice when this deal comes up:

In Steam, right click Simcity 4 and click properties. Then click Set Launch Options on the first tab.

In this box, you can add any, some, or all of the following text.

-CustomResolution:enabled -rXXXXxYYYY -intro:off -CPUCount:1

change XXXX and YYYY to your monitors resolution to enable widescreen resolutions not supported by default.
-CPUCount:1 restricts the game to 1 of your CPU cores and prevents issues caused by multicore CPUs
-intro:off just disables the intro video that plays each time you start the game

Some people also claim adding -EH:off also prevents crashes but I'm not sure what it does and haven't used it myself.

Heat, I also just found this great mod: The Network Addon Mod NAM.

The Network Addon Mod, or NAM, is a modification for SimCity 4 Deluxe (or SimCity 4 with the Rush Hour Expansion pack), which adds a myriad of new transport network items, ranging from ground light rail, to fractional-angle roads, to roundabouts, and much more. It also includes bugfixes to Maxis items and a highly optimized set of traffic simulator plugins, improving pathfinding accuracy and performance.

Is this worth having if you already have SC5?

Heat for the OP, and likes for every comment so far. Good, constructive stuff all round (pun not originally intended, but I'm leaving it here because I like it).

For £2.49, probably. I'm told Simcity5 is a very different game.

Bargain, nice one op, heat added

Absolutely. Consider SC4 like the pro version of SC5. SC5 is good for a bit of a play, but when you want to actually dedicate some serious time into building a massive project, SC4 is the only way.

As long as you're feeling nostalgic, don't forget to pick up SC2000 for free on Origin: origin.com/en-…use

love this thanks op and all

Requires a whole ton of crap from Origin before you get your hands on the game ...

Sim City 5 is absolutely dreadful even with recent fixes, this is a much, much better game.

Great game, the rush hour expansion and NAM pack are a must to make it possible to get to super large cities!

That is a different Sim City and posted already in this thread. Do not post wrong statements.

Windows & Mac.

Best version of this game. Far superior to Sim City V in almost every way.

Not really? Just the Origin client and an account with them, which I'm guessing a lot of PC Gamers do anyways.

After that, just add it to your library.

Just as easy as Steam really?

Thanks for this, I will try this as SC4 has always been unstable. I hope this works because it makes the game unplayable.

Even with this mine will still crash occasionally. Much better than without but still, save often.
