Not worth it, the wallpaper is boring.
I need a little more girth.

So tempted, but generally I prefer a larger phone. No stock so that's made the decision for me.

My Mi 9 is doing my tits in.

Could stop off at Homebase when collecting your phone.

Re camera. There are so many reviews it should take maybe half hour to be satisfied with camera quality

Larger phone? I thought it was quite big compared to my 6s,and personally would not want a phone any bigger.

Oh funny you should mention that. What I normally do towards the end of a contract (this Pixel 2 finishes in November) is I sell the phone off before the new one drops and depreciation accelerates and then I try a new phone for the last few months. Mainly cos with so many phones I get to try new ones and plus if it's that bad I've got an upgrade around the corner.

Anyway for this cycle I'm looking at the Mi 8/ Mi 9. How bad are they?
Been this price for a while, I picked one up at this price about 5 weeks ago, made up with it

Photo quality (in low light) was poor on my mi8 so I've sold it after a few days of use.
I'm also wondering how good is mi9?

It was the best on the market at the time of release, in normal shots compared to my s7 not much differance, the colours more natural but it's the close up and and far away shots was where the camera came to life there was just more detail in the photos.

I went from an S7 to Pixel 2 and they were night and day difference. Just as the the S7 was a generation ahead of the competition, the Pixel 2 was also a generation ahead of the competition.

Pixel 2 photos in day were better Vs S7 imho, much better HDR, colour and detail. The pixel 2 blew it out the water in night shots and was in another planet when it came to selfies.

My comparisons was done in about 10 mins in daylight, but I agree with all your comments regarding the camera quality.

The disappearing notifications and the flaky MIUI. I've had several Mi phones, Mi Max, Mi Mix 2, some of the Note series but it's got to the point where i'm craving something a bit more refined. Software is underated on a phone. It's not all about hardware specs.

I've been using Xiaomi because of the value aspect but I think now I would go try something else. I had a Nexus 6p before jumping to Xiaomi.

I just notice little things that are starting to irk me. Notifications come at weird times. I have 2 Mi phones with Messenger installed and if someone sends me a message they don't always arrive in a timely fashion or at the same time.

Things like downloading photos in message apps, seems flaky, sometimes it holds far too long before downloading. I'm thinking wifi issue as I've noticed problems in youtube. The issues don't happen with my other phones on the same network.

Also have minor ads, I'm global stable rom. Honestly they are very few ads and don't really bother me, but it would be a plus to go back to an OS that looks clean.

All minor issues and I still think the phone is the best value prospect, just I fancy a change and will pay more for a more polished OS.

I'd had it since release in Hong Kong. I can't fault the hardware. It's MIUI that has small issues that are pushing me back to try another brand again.

I'm used to 6.5 inch phones. Even have a Mix Max 3 at 6.9 inch. All my last 4 phones as daily drivers have been 6.3 +

Superb. I replaced my highly rated P20 Pro with this. Whilst the P20 would win an extreme low light battle, this is better in just about any other situation - much more natural colour with much less OTT processing.

And it's running vanilla Android which is a major bonus.

To the Xiaomi folk complaining about Miui being laggy (which I am generally, I find YouTube often 'hangs forever', I tried something on my Note 5 the other day and it's not showing any of that terrible lag now, touch wood it stays like this, as it is potentially a great device for.me, but has been a pain in the boudoir.

Now sorry for the vagueness, but I was just fiddling about and this seemed to do the business

Basically I did a full factory reset, BUT then I went into the few apps that came pre loaded (not Google, and not Miui, I think), and there was a list of six apps, one of which was the Dreaded Facebook (which I think was the main culprit, it used to be years ago, constantly doing something) and there was another one which I can not remember (sorry), but it seemed useless.

So I basically deleted these after the phone had reset, then carried on as normal downloading my apps, etc.
I also.went into developer option and took.the animation things down to off, etc, but I do think that the Facebook app is the Biggie to delete, and after a reset

Anyhow, thought it worth passing on here,.my phone does feel like.how it should (though I still.orefer Android One)

6" is pretty average these days, I need bigger.

Good advice, I done the same a few years ago and actually love Miui and prefer it to stock android. Hoping to get a new Xiaomi soon
I am staggered with the capability of the camera on this in low light. It was a lot darker than this to the naked eye.37994046-8R8Pi.jpg

The Achilles heel of Xiaomi isn't it !
Camera quality doesn't bother me but I think if they improved it, they would secure more sales.

Is that a euthorisium :/
For those with issues with MIUI just use Nova Launcher.

MIUI/any skin isn't just the launcher. It's the settings page (framework), notification, task killer in the background, icons/theme etc etc.

I had a MI4C before, you've reminded me of all the little issues. MICC9 could be the next Xiaomi google phone, looks pretty good. I'm probably just gonna wait till the S10 is cheaper.
