If it were my money I'd go for the Samsung Steve.
I've got one of these (Pixel 4) and it's a really nice phone. I'm personally enjoying it more than my iPhone 11. Battery life is pretty bad though. Not an issue for me, but it might be for some.

Better than all these risky chinese suppliers.

If only they had put sensible size batteries and gone for 128gb as standard...would have attracted so much more sales.

What phones have you been looking at today? Me oneplus 7 Pro and note 10+ snappy. Both I've had previously haha. Going mad!

To be honest, none for me, looking to post, but all the good ones seem to go super quick, so pointless posting a deal with 1 in stock today.

And a brighter screen!
The 4 is about where it should have been at launch. Google seriously missed the mark with it IMO. Now the 3...oh how I love my 3

Note 10 plus 5g everytime, even at this price I think the pixels are too expensive for what's offered compared to the competition.

4xl has sensible-sized battery. Apple doesn't have 64gb standard either, doesn't get as much flak as Google (it should)

Bigger problem with sales is, release date in October too close to BF

Yer, but not everyone wants XL sized phones. I know OCUK are obsessed by them - voting could S10 deals, but up voting S10+, but a lot of people want regular sized phones. For less than the price of a Pixel 4, you can get a good 128gb phone eith a much better battery.

That's the thing, xl sized phones have bigger batteries. Not many compact phones around, out of those even fewer with good battery life, Huawei comes to mind, S10e not bad either I believe.

Of course you can get many good phones for less money than a Pixel 4: it's an expensive, luxury phone. Still, there must be a reason why it has such a small battery, I don't give up finding why.

The Pixel 4 is a thin phone (8.2mm). It would be possible to increase battery size on a small phone, but it would compromise design. I would personally go for a thicker phone with a bigger battery. Xiaomi have been doing this for years on their smaller budget phones. Redmi 7a (9.55mm) for example has a 4000mah battery. This is a less significant concern on budget phones, which are cutting a number of corners, including design elements, anyway.
Manufacturers are unwilling to go down this route on their flagship phones. I hope this trend will change in the future!

Redmi 7a not sold in UK; Mi 8 se, Mi A2 lite only compact sizes in their line-up here, latter with big battery and good software stands out, bit thicker like you say, but that's not popular in smartphone world.

Those with wireless charging can somewhat counter small battery size, as their professional owners tend to have pads/stand at work/home, part of furniture in some offices/households

Yes, I personally put up with lesser battery life as I have car chargers, wireless charging stands and portable chargers. I appreciate that your average consumer doesn't operate like this. I also carry around a Oneplus 7 Pro, so my phone battery drain is shared between them. Again, not a normal use case.
It's this price on the official Google store so might as well buy from there, generally get better support that way.

No, no it is not. Not only is it more expensive, Google customer service is awful.

I have had every pixel and when the 4 arrived and after installing the apps and setting up as usual, nearly 50% of the battery power had gone. The 3XL used about 20% when I did the same the year before. So I returned it to Google. They cocked up the RMA process and briefly accused me of doing it wrong. After promising to refund me the money two weeks later I had to chase again. It then took another week for the refund emails to drop, advising me of the 14 days I would have to wait for the money.

Had I simply purchased from Carphone Warehouse, or anywhere else, I could have simply driven down the road and got an instrant refund.
Meemu23/11/2019 15:24

Was referring to 3a.

Maybe make that clear next time, I'd rather have the savings, but that's just me. Here for the deals

I would have to agree with that.

I returned my Pixel 4 as well. I was a Pixel 3 owner before I made the jump to the Pixel 4, but reducing the size of the battery whilst introducing 90hz screen and Soli just made for a very anxious experience, akin to driving an electric vehicle with range anxiety. I was one of the very early adopters who pre-ordered on day 1 (and I was one of the 2000 who got the cereal box) hoping it wasn't as bad as they said.

But against my better judgement, I kept it pass the 14 days and was going to live with it because there was enough to love even with it's failings, UNTIL....

Just past my 14 days of owning it (which I protected on day 1 with a screen protector and in a case), I dropped it once on carpeted floor and that was enough to make the paint on the banding come off near the edge of the back glass. Take note that the Pixel 4 was in a case! Was not happy about the quality control of the hardware.

So on day 16 I contacted Google about this, and I couldn't believe the customer service I was getting. Was told it was not covered under warranty, but I argued about the QC of the product, and eventually got an RMA. That was that I thought. Until I had to chase them up 2 days later, 4 days later, and then 8 days later, every time a generic answer of how they had to go through a specialist to get my RMA sorted.

If you look at Reddit, there's been a few incidences of this already so it wasn't isolated to my Pixel 4 (which Google originally said it was only me!).

Finally got it sorted just this week and I sent them back the Pixel 4, so lets see how long it takes to get my refund. I'm sorry Google, but if you are charging that much for a phone and WANT to be Apple, aside from your quirky hardware choices, your customer service leaves a lot to be desired.

A lot worse than my Oneplus 7 Pro and not quite as good as my Pixel 3.
However, I have forced 90hz on which obviously doesn't help.

How have they messed up battery life? It's 'naked' android isn't it??
I think this code is now invalid
