I am very suspicious that this might get many cold votes, but seemed like a good one to me.

The last sim-free one I found on HKUD was about £225...

This is now £191.75 including delivery

To me, windows phones have evolved quite a bit with win8... butter smooth for the specs of this phone.
App store can a big negative though if you are looking for a lot of non-basic/gaming apps...

Eh, I think I'll wait for the 8X to come down in price. Heat from me though.

Or you can buy direct from Orange for £179 and spend £8.99 to get it unlocked for all Networks.

They also come with a free set of WESC Headphones with a supposed RRP of £90 (highly unlikely they are worth this but you would get £20 by selling on).

Also, going via Quidco/Topcashback you get a further £30 cashback.

shop.orange.co.uk/mob…-go

remember, you won't be able to use Active Sync on them until Microsoft comes up with an update to support IMAP

Fantastic interface on windows 8, far better than the ageing iOS and android.

This. Most peoples have used Windows Phone 7 and fail to see that Phone 8 is a completely different OS, The same with Windows 8 bashers that have only used the Developers Preview, not realizing it isn't the same as the finished product.

The problem is people are content to use the same outdated OS they've been using for years on Apple devices. Not liking change and the fact that they've invested so much in the propitiatory app store that they don't want to have to buy everything again, so rather than admit they are using crap phones they just try and slate the competition that is providing actual innovation, rather than just making their phones longer and downgrading the maps.

I'm an absolute Android fan boy (and proud) but this is a great price for folks that like Windows Phone 8. Voted HOT!

You mean you won't be able to use GMail, because surprisingly it's not Microsoft pulling their own product (ActiveSync) from the phone.

Good deal for those that are looking for a Windows Phone. I've yet to see a large amount of people complain about their Windows Phone 8 purchases!

Are they ever going to do that? They want you to do that sort of stuff in the cloud.

No I think he means Active synch in terms of the old school desktop synch rather than exchange active synch.

You make it sound like there's a problem with the phone.. there isn't.

What you are referring to EAS, which Google announced they are withdrawing for new devices for free accounts from the 30th of January. Microsoft has also confirmed that they'll add IMAP support. It's all part of Google's efforts to screw consumers - really, why you'd want to use Gmail with Office365 and Outlook.com, I'll never know

So if you purchase this phone now and set it up with Google Gmail, you'll be fine. Any devices setup with Google before the end of January, will keep functioning fine.

Don't forget that the 8S comes with less than 2gb of usable space, and you can't install apps to SD card, so you have to use that space on the phone for them. Music and photos, however, CAN go onto SD card.

Hot from me, the one and only thing that does hold WP8 back slow app support the OS itself is great.... but it has most of the big apps ones.

Only waiting on Quidco, Tastecard and my Bank and then I think I am set.

got mine from Very for 179 before xmas - but this seems to be a pretty good current deal

Hot(ish)

The phone itself is fantastic and the speed blows android out of the water !

I am sure this will drop in price once the Nokia 620 is out next month.

What a stupid thing to say. You are saying its just iPhone users not liking the Windows phone. I know lots of android users disliking too. To me I think it's a lot improved and like the idea of it instead of the usual icon based design.

Judging from the market share, I think its safe to say most people dislike the Windows phone operating system. Just saying.

Those who have bought and used Windows Phones rate them very highly and are very satisfied, on average, with the OS. Market share is important to a point when the OS is trying to gain traction, but not the be-all-and-end-all. In some respects, WP has seen a sharper rise than the other OS's.

I dont think many people have given it a real change... people dont like change.
I myself can imagine using a different OS now. All the othther feel like they were made in the 90s now.

I find it really strange that there are so many commentors jumping to the defence of windows phone 7/8 when its market share is so low. it's the same on all technology and mobile phone websites. Solely based on the amount of positive comments around the web of WP7/8 you'd think that they were the market leader instead of having a 2/3/5/7% market share.

I smell a fish, or rather a shill.

A shill, also called a plant or a stooge, is a person who publicly helps a person or organization without disclosing that he has a close relationship with that person or organization.

I guess all companies do it to some extent, but microsoft seem to have gone into overdrive on this occasion.

I'd wait for the Lumia 620, will be cheaper than this and offer 8GB of on-board memory for apps, as well as Nokia's software.

The nokia lumia 620 is going to be much better than this! it will be cheaper also has a front facing camera, nokia built in apps including navigation (which came out on top out of all the navigation apps) theres also nokia music which is free and unlimited. Finally the pixel density is much better. If i was you i would wait till the lumia 620 arrives at the end of the month!

No hot uk deals app

Windows 8 Desktop is like from the 90s

If I buy a windows 8 app, does it mean I have bought it on the windows phone store as well or would I have to buy it again?

Pinky - you can smell whatever you like..............

But tell that to my family/friends/colleagues who have, in the last year or so, jumped ship to go onto WP. I have used WP for the last two years and they have seen me with a reliable, robust phone (it does do calls and texts very very well, unlike some) and a slick, beautiful OS, whilst they meanwhile were faffing around with different ROM's or live wallpapers on their sluggish Android devices or mollycoddling their oh-so-fragile iPhones.

I am very happy to promote WP to whoever I meet, because I see it's advantages in that........

(a) it is fresh, modern and different.

(b) it works really, really well

(c) it's ecosystem is growing - rapidly.

(d) it means I don't have to be a slave to the Apple with all that entails/costs

(e) alternatively I don't have to deal with Google and that can only be a BIG plus from my point of view.

Just because I am keen to promote it doesn't mean I have a vested interest (However, should some WP/Microsoft gaffer want to offer me a great job, just PM me)
