For that price I'd take Redmi note 6 from Amazon which is an improvement in every way on Moto.

Are you sure? e.g. the Moto has a smaller battery, but much better battery life according to gsmarena's tests: 10.33h web browsing for the Redmi, vs 15.16h for the Moto

Also, being newer the Moto is likely get updated to a newer version of Android than the Redmi.

(I'm not saying I know the Moto is better overall as I haven't compared the other specs, I just think it's worth pointing these things out)

I had the G6 Play for a year, and it was EXCELLENT. Much more reliable than my very flaky Galaxy A50. HOWEVER, this phone has a 3000mah battery vs the 4000mah in the G6 Play, a smaller visible screen (no notch on the G6), less RAM (2gb vs 3gb) and practically the same camera, which is passable for the price point.

I'm sure it's okay for the price, but it feels like a step down on paper.

Specs don't tell the full story. The G7 Play is much faster than the G6 Play (despite less RAM) because of a better CPU.

Geekbench multi-core score for G7 play = 4154 vs 2328 for G6 Play.

It has slightly better battery life too, because the CPU has lower power consumption: 103h endurance rating for G7 Play vs 92h for G6 Play (Though the G6 Play does better for talk time)

Don't get me wrong, I well believe that it's faster, but it very much feels like Moto have made savings and efficiencies to make a very incremental improvement, rather than providing real advancement in any particular area.

One of the main reasons I chose a G7 Play when looking for a budget phone is because it's relatively small and light - more so than its predecessor, partly because of the smaller battery.

I wasn't thrilled about having a notch, but I can sort of see the point of it as it reduces the amount of bezel and you're not really losing visible screen area as it has a slightly increased screen resolution to cover the area next to the notch.
