I've never understood or rated this phone, the way I see this is, it's for people who don't want stock android on the mi a2, and would prefer miui.

Sorry buddy, happy to be educated but the Pocophone is significantly higher specd than the Mi A2 and that alone would be enough to warrant getting it over the Mi A2? Fwiw I have the Mi A1 at the mo and stock android is a beaut. But not sure the Mi A2 gives me much more hence looking at the Pocophone. If you really wanted MIUI on an A2 in sure there is an equivalent phone as there was with the A1 (Mi 5x??)

Ask yourself these:
- if you mind the "classic" looks of the Nokia or if you hate the notch on Xiaomi
- if you are playing lots of graphic intensive games then Nokia is the one for you as it's miles ahead in terms of graphics (this only applies if you play high-end games)
-real life performance on both would be really good
- whether you want your fingerprint scanner on the front or on the back
- would you rather have a bigger screen or be able to easily use your phone with one hand
- is a dual SIM option important to you.

Is one significantly better than the other in this regard? Nokia has smaller battery but more energy-efficient chip. Smaller screen but its resolution is a burden on the battery.

Fair point. Lots to consider
All these Xiaomi phones have no headphone sockets. It's a complete deal-breaker for me. Annoying as otherwise they have great specs for the price.
Mi 8 lite battery life is not very good, and I'm only doing emails etc. also I've paid the price, so ensure that you fit a screen protector as the screen ain't that scratch resistant.

Its just a way of making sure we keep "upgrading" our phones. Put a battery in it that barely gets you through the day. After a year battery starts to decrease so you have no choice but to upgrade. Hate all the 3000mAh batteries in most phones. Probably one thing I like most about my Nokia 7 plus is its decent battery life.
It's a shame only boring black available for sale...

Mi A2 lite does.

Also has 4000mah battery!

So tempting...

I'd have jumped on that if it didn't have an older generation CPU (it's slightly better than the one in my currency Moto X Play which really struggles with 3D). Seems every phone has major flaw stopping it from being a must purchase.

Looking at <6" (will go slightly bigger if it's a notch and/or tiny bezel) , headphone socket, good battery life, as new as possible so it'll get Android upgrades 1080p or better, and something with a significantly better CPU than a Snapdragon 615. £250 is my limit.

The Xiaomi Pocophone also has a headphone socket. Perhaps you should actually read the specs yourself rather than rely on gossip down the pub

You can get a Pocophone for that now, albeit the 64gb one. And if you want to stick to legit UK sites you can still get very close to £250. I bought mine from Ebuyer for £258 the other week.

6.18" screen
Snapdragon 845 processor
6gb RAM
Running Android Pie now, and confirmed will get at least Android Q

Cheap, fast and if you don't like MIUI like me, just drop on Nova Launcher
Edited by: "Waterboy8535" 27th Dec 2018
I bought the MI A2 lite in the black Friday sale at Amazon, for £115 I can't complain. It was actually Mrswitch who put the idea in my head after it was recommended for someone at work who wanted a decent budget phone. The reason I got it for myself was I knew it had Android One on it and I was sick of messing round with custom roms on my redmi note 4 (either because it needed updating or couldn't resist trying a new flavour).

I don't know what other phones version of Android One are like but on the MI A2 lite it has a PAI which will install apps on it's own once you connect the phone to the internet and spock which is like a spyware. The way I got round it was once it had updated to Pie I did a factory reset on the phone, put it in flight mode and activated the debugging option in developer mode so I could use adb to uninstall the offending apks (it is not a true uninstall since they are system files, they stay in the system file in the root directory but are no longer active).

Then it is more like stock android, all the miui apps are removed when you do a factory reset after upgrading to Pie and no additional apps are installed. I just wish Xiaomi would not put these apps in the system file to begin with. it is cleaner than MIUI but not as clean as I would have liked

Apart from that, I love the phone, love the fact I can update it without any faff on, keep root and not have to install TWRP and still have a relatively clean version of Android. I don't mind the notch, there is actually a cool live wallpaper you can put on that works well with the notch.

Erm Xiaomi of course, it was a light hearted comment on the fact you used to have to jump through importing hoops etc and now you can get one in Argos. It was better when nobody had the same phone as you and you can't beat a warranty gamble....

I'm with you been importing them since the days of the mi2, I think that was 2013, and I haven't had another brand since (briefly a Xperia L2) while I was waiting for a screen to come.
No NFC.

What’s NFC

It’s like KFC but with far less cholesterol.

"All these Xiaomi phones have no headphone sockets."

Last Year (just over 1 Year ago), I bought an Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 for a Family member, and guess what it actually did have?.

Let's just say, it was NOT left wanting ...

And Note 4's can STILL be had for a reasonable amount of money? - and even 1 Year on, it's not exactly too shabby either? (even now).

Well, that's how I see it anyway, lol.

I don't have a Note 5, so I can't make any comments via it ...

As per above.

krazysaj28/12/2018 03:53

What’s NFC

Near Field Communication ... (NFC).

It's a Wirelessly Technology, a Wireless Technology similar to Wi-Fi, and similar to Bluetooth too. :-D

But not the same as either of the two ...

I think the Bluetooth Technology (and what Bluetooth does/is), is the best way to perhaps describe it more as, I suppose?. :-)

NFC excells in some area's where Bluetooth is lacking, but in a similar vain there are certain strength's to be had in Bluetooth, in where NFC is now rather lacking forth instead ...

Pro's and con's to be had with both basically?, lol.
