How is this for setting a cap on data use. Had a bad experience with TPO recently, for my daughter's mobile, where I was able to select a credit limit of £20 which was the minimum I could select unfortunately. Received an email the other evening stating she was 80% into her data allowance so logged into the online account to see there was a charge for £27. Immediately asked her why she was using data instead of Wi-Fi and it was because she'd turned off WiFi at school but forgot when she got home and proceeded to watch YouTube videos. I immediately switched it back to wifi, then double checked the online account only to find the charge had gone up to £33.
When I called TPO the next day they explained that the credit limit isn't guaranteed as it doesn't allow for their system to catch up on data usage.
Promptly cancelled and now looking for another good value SIM but with a guaranteed data cap.

EE is probably your best bet.
They don't allow you to go over.
Warning text at 80% then 100% and then you have to purchase an add on.
I don't know what your whole situation is but i am with EE and i have 35gb data(£18- Retention deal) and i have recently discovered that i can gift any other numbers on my account with data. I also bought another 2 sims for £5 each(1000 mins and 1Gb data) at the same time,, for my teenagers. This means i can now gift them as much or little as i like. It also gives me the option of blocking purchases/ineternational calls/premium rate etc for the additional sims.
All this is done with a click in the My EE app.

All of us have id mobile. They all have a cap of£5 which call be changed in the app. We pay£5 a month but have 2gb data and more calls and texts than we can use. The only negative if you send a long text it charges a picture message. I'm unsure if other networks charge for this. We have no issues with the network.

Make her pay for your own stupidity. She will soon learn responsibility. Why is she watching YouTube videos instead of studying? Ban YouTube from a phone and force her to use a computer, if she wants to watch videos. Poor parenting should be considered.

You were lucky it wasn't more, this is the reason why I'd never consider a contract on a child's phone. One of the benefits of giffgaffs is due to the free giffgaffs calls, they can always call or text you if their credit or goodybag has run out.
We bought my Dad a Doro mobile when he lost his sight, but it's been difficult to find a SIMO tariff with a low monthly cost that still gives a generous amount of minutes and data - he doesn't text but the 'assistance' button sends a text with coordinates when activated, and the phone syncs over data to MyDoro which allows us to remotely manage his contacts, reminders and shortcut buttons.

I guess you need one of Plusnet £5 a month offers. Got one earlier this month with 1.5GB data, 1000mins and 1000texts. This should do for low usage, shouldn't it? Plus you can set the max spend to be as low as £2

If you are all on giff gaff!
Loads of these piggyback networks offer free on-net calls and texts.

They can just jump onto free wifi anywhere with no credit and call/text with Whatsapp etc!

I think their £5 deal with 2.25GB data or Plusnet's 1.5GB is much better value.
Should have grabbed this when they were doing 1MB of data for the same price..
