It's that time of the year again! No, not Black Friday, Singles Day 2017 is upon us!!

Forbes describe Singles Day as is the most significant online shopping day in China and the biggest shopping holiday globally. This year, Singles’ Day sales are forecast to surpass last year’s $17.8 billion, given an unprecedented number of participating brands, significant offline retail offerings and Alibaba’s effort to extend the occasion from a one-day shopping event into a shopping season.

140,000 brands, including more than 60,000 international brands, will be participating in Singles’ Day this year, up from 100,000 last year. These brands will showcase their products to more than half a billion Chinese consumers on China’s e-commerce platforms.

But each year, more UK retailers are joining in on the fun, so keep checking back here each day to see whats on offer.

Pretty disgusting that its even being mentioned on here or in the UK.I will be thinking of my grandparents and what the 11th of the 11th really means and not some marketing rubbish to get us to spend even more money.Whats next 9 11 party day to get us to buy alcohol rather than remembering the innocent people who were murdered in the twin towers

It’s a Chinese holiday, for a Chinese website, for a Chinese audience. Really doesn’t have any impact on the British day of memorial

Are these comments taking the mick? It's a Chinese holiday that's been around for decades, based on the fact all the numbers in the date are ones. They've not just invented it to be disrespectful to a commemoration on the other side of the world. Do we need to audit every nation's holidays to make sure light-hearted ones in one culture don't clash with a somber one in another? I wonder if somewhere there's a forum crying about the fact we're celebrating pancake day this year on the anniversary of the start of the Nepalese Civil War.

lollypoplee8 m ago

Why is it being pushed so hard on hot UK deals then! Notice the UK part.

So China should scrap its holiday sale because people on a UK deals website will talk about it? AliExpress ships to the UK, hence the posts. They aren’t taking out advertising space and begging people to shop on 11/11. It’s not a ploy to get people to spend money on the day either.

Just because someone has brought it to peoples attention doesn't mean they want to be detrimental to remembrance day

The same as Armistice day, 11th of November. Not the ideal day to pick for a shopping bonanza from our perspective, but it's primarily for the chinese market.

Thanks cikki100, it did say a few days originally. Wish I'd known, I wouldn't have bothered if I knew that.

what annoys me about aliexpress 11.11 is that the shipping time really suffers due to the workload/holiday - the usual 3-4 weeks shipping time usually doubles and you've got no chance of getting anything in time for christmas, all to save pennies

You sure? There's a pretty big banner on the app for it and not seen one since black Friday sales so I'm guessing there some advertising going on.

"But each year, more UK retailers are joining in on the fun, so keep checking back here each day to see whats on offer."

I really hope that UK retailers don't join in for 11/11, out of respect to our loved ones on Armistice Day. 'at the 11th Hour of the 11th Day of the 11th Month’ ‘lest we forget’

Why does it really matter that it’s on Armistice Day? If you require the day to remember then you’re missing the whole point.

That make sense. Didn't know it was a Chinese thing. I was thinking "wtf who would pick this date".

More annoyed by ignorant people on this forum making this a hot deal, who cares what sacrifices the older generation made, as long as we can buy cheap badly made Chinese tat

Don't get me wrong the day is special for me and a lot of other people, but majority of the country will carry on with their lives; buying stuff, spending time with the family and going out having fun on saturday night. This freedom is exactly what the older generation gave their lives for. Hardly disrespectful promoting a global sale event.

Also, where do the 200k+ Chinese people who live in the UK and still want to be part of the own culture shop on 11.11? Just looks like HUKD are being diverse to the wider audience.

I actually agree to a point, but there are American people living in the UK too but we dont celebrate thanks giving nor is it advertised over here

Evening ladies.

I don't get why you ppl complaining about the day ang Chinese whatsever,it's just another excuse for the seller and the buyer to make and spend money like black Friday cyber day xmax market ……if you're not happy just don't buy it or don't bother to read the post, the ppl whom make such complaining just making me sick keep your posh fingers out of it and shut up! Nobody force you buy anything here and deals went hot speaks all.

Not advertised? Isn’t Black Friday traditionally the day after American Thanksgiving that officially marks the Christmas shopping period?

I don't have any problems with the Chinese celebrating any day for whatever reason.

HUKD is not a retailer and they are based in the Seychelles, although owned by two Brits.

I would however have issue if UK retailers, as OP said, started celebrating 'singles day' on the 11/11

The first 8 hours or the busiest time will be from 4.00pm to Midnight on the 10th GMT, so this should keep everyone happy.

Oh leave off clutching your pearls.

You can't truly think deals should be downvoted because the sale day clashes with European commemorations.

the people on here....clearly this is a deal website, it's not a memorial site

Well, I am taking that day of the deals as a celebration of the Polish independence day (99th anniversary).

In terms of the 'singles day' name, that is a bit a miss in my view, as married people could start to think if that is also applicable to them.

Regardless, I think we should have deals all over the world every other day of the year.

11/11 - China
13/11 - Mozambique
15/11 - Germany
17/11 - Chile
19/11 - Russia
...
26/12 - UK
and so on...

Great idea, we also need a "HUKD ***ed up the website even more day" as this seems to be such a regular occurance.

IT IS NOT A CHINESE HOLIDAY! Why people keep saying this is a Chinese holiday? The date was created by Alibaba retail group, copied western Black Friday. There is no single day celebration in Chinese history, just another markeing tool for Alibaba (Taobao)

If you have any Chinese friends, ask them to buy something from Taobao.com or JD.com on 11th Nov, will save you quite a lot. e.g. DJI drones and insta360 camera is much cheaper compare you buy from here. Do you know Anker also is a Chinese based company in Shenzhen (Same as DJI and Intsta360)

You can swear, the rules on that have been relaxed slightly here now.

I think the term 'knobhead' should suffice pretty well for this purpose.
