Inspired by the Octavia deal a couple of days back, spotted this which is the cheapest I can find at the moment with a smaller upfront. Obviously monthly will be higher but it may suit someone who would prefer to spread the payment

Skoda Octavia Hatchback 1.4 TSI 150 SE Sport 5dr

Excl VAT £116.65 x 23 + upfront payment £1049.85 = £3732.80

Inc Vat £139.98 x 23 + upfront payment £1259.82 = £4479.36

my opinion: far too expensive for a car that's not a diesel, not automatic, and not a skoda superb. I would rather buy one that's a year old

TAXI I SAY TAXI

+ arrangement fee.....how much does that add?

Whatever individual opinion is, these 1.4T engines are pretty nippy - and we regularly get well into the high 50's in our A3 for fuel efficiency pottering about (it turns off a cylinder if not needed - might not be a feature on this Skoda, mind).

It's also an Audi A4, yuk!

lease cars confuse me.

I finally understand the 1st month multiple payment thing that some have. I don't get what 'maintenance' is though.

Surely, shouldn't have to pay to do repairs on a car that isn't even yours? As in car is under warranty still being brand new, so most things should be covered anyway? Should be expected to last the period of the term (ok not including tyres in nails but everything else)

Tyres, brakepads and other consumables....etc but yes agree rarely worth paying a maintenance contract esp for a 2 year lease...even tyres may last 20k

So basically....nothing 'should' break in the course of 2 years, other than maybe a nail in tyre? And at the end of year 2 they couldn't really charge extras, eg "you didn't put new brake pads on before handed it back etc"
Would have to pay for annual service too? Presume doesnt include insurance for the 2yrs either

I would hope so. The Fiesta i handed back after 18 months/16k, the tyres were like new!

I think with regards to general maintenance, it has to be able to pass an MOT.

You would have to pay for servicing, unless you have maintenance included.

Insurance would not be included. You would be required to have fully comp and should seriously consider GAP.

A lease with maintenance is for the servicing. Otherwise you'd have to pay separately and I'd imagine a condition of lease would be to have services in accordance with manufacturers specification.

Just ordered one of these through national vehicle solutions. £2400 initial payment £240 deposit and £107 a month. That's with 2 additional options. I had DSG and heated front seats. Happy days.

Technically it's not an A4, this is the MQB platform, the A4 uses the MLB platform, but it is a :-

Audi A3
Audi TT
Audi Q2
SEAT León
SEAT Ateca
Škoda Superb
Škoda Kodiaq
Volkswagen Golf
Volkswagen Passat
Volkswagen Tiguan
Volkswagen Touran

And soon to be :-

Volkswagen Caddy Mk4
Audi Q3 Mk2
Volkswagen CrossBlue
SEAT Ibiza Mk5

If you drive moderately 20k is easily attainable on the fronts and 25k plus on the rears

It is 16 Valves, 8 in the engine and 8 in the radio. What ever anyone says , Skoda has an image problem , its badge should have been withdrawn years ago. It is what Gary Glitter is to radio requests, Jimmy Savile to Childrens TV and repeats of Top of the Pops, Gerald Ratner is to Jewelry .

Cars are to get you from a to b . Everything else is just ego . Skoda could put gold plated fittings in it but it would still be considered a t*rd by the majority of the public. !

naw most people know its a VAG!

With these lease cars if you get any slight scratches or marks on the car do they make you pay pay for them at a premium when your lease is up?

Not sure who would still prefer a manual these days? The DSG automatics are so good and make driving less of a chore.

Don't give me the 'manual is more involving' line, because this is a skoda octavia, not a porsche 911.

No.

If you damage it enough so that it's visible from 10 feet, it's probably worth repairing it before returning.

A friend scratched mine when camping. It was quite noticeable and he offered to pay the fee when I returned it. They ended up paying me because I looked after it well.

All the usual comments starting already..

OP I think this is a terrific deal. Two years of worry free motoring in a safe, fuel efficient brand new car of decent quality for less than £4.5k is a total bargain.

It's more in comparison with a VW Jetta, but with a hatchback.

Great Deal. I have had all sorts of cars in my life, BMW's, Audis, Volvos Fords Vauxhalls etc, but the last two cars have been Skodas, put over 250,000 miles on them and didn't skip a beat, dealers are helpful and there are lots of free servicing and extended warranty deals out there! The old Skoda jokes are about as relevant now as a Zeppelin puncture repair outfit! if you want to know how good the Skodas are check out any JD power survey!

Skoda is still the poor cousin to Seat. Seat cars are better looking and generally cost less, they are usually engineered to be a bit more exciting to drive, not that driving excitement is a priority for Skoda drivers (that's why they still make a Cupra Ibiza but dropped the Fabia vRS).

Leon > Octavia.

People who are telling Skoda jokes are just having a bit of fun and I'm sure that everyone knows they have moved on from the 80's,so why are you being so serious about people having a bit of a laugh and pointing people to polls ?

Anyway I have a serious question -

On a Skoda which goes faster, the engine or the sills

my next car could be superb what car i can compare that with Please i do less than 6k miles but fancy a nice saloon wont be a brand new one
