Sky Broadband - Free line rental for existing customers not in contract

Found 1st Mar 2016
I recently tried to move from sky broadband and received an email asking me not to go. Phoned up order cancellations and I was offered free line rental worth £200 if i signed up for a new contract for 12 months. Copper broadband is free from sky and fibre is £10 per month, so depending what you choose Broadband could be free or £120 for the year. I reckon this deal would only work if you are an existing sky broadband customer and not in an contract with them for broadband.

Seems a good deal.. When you say that you recently tried to move, did you actually apply elsewhere?
I'm on a similar deal which I am only paying line rental for and getting broadband and SKY TV for free. The contract is up at the end of the month so I am mulling over what to do. This is worth knowing though, thanks for the tip.
Coming to the end of my Sky contract.
For the last 2 years I have had free line rental and £7.50 for broadband plus £5 for anytime calls when phoned about leaving. So £12.50/month for broadband/line rental/anytime calls on a one year contract.
It seems to be hit and miss who gets offered what as a retention.

I just give them a buzz and they offered me a free router and that’s it
I guess its luck of the draw. I think I will rely move from them now as they keep increasing their charges.
I was on the carphone warehouse deal which gave free tv bundle and broadband all for price of line rental for 12 months. It was due to finish in March so called them to cancel in hope of another deal. TV channels were not too important to me but i wanted to keep the broadband at lowest price possible. After a bit of haggling and pointing out the many free broadband deals available elsewhere I got 12months free broadband with line rental at £7 and retention of sky plus for £10 so total of £17 a month without tv bundle.i agreed to this. 2 days later got a phone call asking if I wanted to keep tv bundle for £23 a month with no contract. I said I didn't want to pay any more than I had agreed and he offered me £100 credit to use towards the tv channels which can be cancelled when credit is used up.
Yes, I applied to BT.. so an active line takeover was happening. I reckon this is why the email was sent... but I'm sure if you called up saying you were thinking of changing supplier and you had heard of this deal, it would be a clincher for you to stay.. blah blah... only saying worth a shot if you are in the situation.. so not for everyone.
Also note, that I was onto Order provisioning team and they couldn't offer the deal... when I was sent to Order Cancellations team, they informed me that it was an active deal.
Thanks for this
I'm out of contract and looking for cheaper deals so I will give this a shot. thanks
I got free broadband for 12 months with 12 months line rental so £17.40 a month plus 2 months credit. Couldn't get close to the new customer deal on MSE.
Also on the CPW deal that is about to expire, all these threads are helping keeping me clued up with what is a decent offer.

Can see me playing a few poker hands on the phone with them in the next few weeks

Was it easy to cancel your new deal with BT?

Was it easy to cancel your new deal with BT?

Well I have called them and BT have said its cancelled. Sky have also stopped the order going through. Suppose I will see on the 9th March, but not feeling confident as BT customer service is shocking. This was the main reason for taking Sky up on the offer.

Interested to know if someone else grabs this deal and it wasn't just based on my situation.

Okay thanks for the info. Was going to switch to a new provider tonight, so will see if sky offer me the same deal of something similar. Tried just cancelling so then I could come back and haggle, but they said to let the new provider do it for me.
I had cancelled my sky tv and broadband last week as moving house and they wouldn't offer me anything. Rang and told them 'a friend' had got a years free line rental and they gave it to me too. No free broadband tho, cheapest was £10 a month. Happy with that tho. Thanks OP
I rang & cancelled my tv & broadband after 8 years with Sky, they didn't offer anything other than a £6 reduction by downgrading my tv package!, no offer for the broadband or anything! I pay £75/month & introductory packages I read about on here are £35 ish for the same thing. They didn't give a crap in my case!
has anyone actually signed up as a new customer at the same address as old one. I've tried but they have the address on their records. now paying £28 a month just for broadband. I've told them ill ditch it completely if they don't give me a decent deal, but they aren't offering me anything. I don't want to actually cancel as the phone line will go inactive surely? needing a reactivation fee

Free broadband was only for adsl (copper) broadband... assuming you signed up for fibre which was £10 a month?

Assuming you are not in contract with them, you can go to another provider, BT, Plusnet, EE, TalkTalk and start the process of getting them to 'take over your line' by signing up for a broadband offer with them. This process then takes about 2 weeks for it to happen. Within those 2 weeks you can cancel anytime without your current broadband being affected. This is what started the process for them to offer me free line rental.

They may be used to people calling bluff on the phone, but actually starting the process may give them a kick. Plus, I'm sure there is better broadband deals out there less than £28 even if you decide to cancel anyway.

The way i see it, if you are not tied in and still paying your original price , then there has got to be a better deal out there.
In the end I didn't have to move elsewhere or give notice to get this offer. Went on to chat, and they said j see you've recently got an offer on sky tv and offered me 12 months free line rental "as part of the deal".
Contract has expired Sky are asking for £25 I have requested to cancel anyone had luck with sky?
Obviously user specific, depends on your current deal, and on the rep you speak to.

Not really a deal
i had this email sent to me last year as i left sky too,im now paying £37.80 for the full sky Hd package including sports n movies and unlimited internet and free line rental

Tried to get better offer from Sky when staying with them for a year after my contract ended. I didn't get anything except, like, 1 pound discount.
Moved further :>
(nota bene I find the practice of pushing line rental and phone plans to customers who don't want them outrageous)
EE are offering unlimited broadband with free weekend calls for £1 plus £17.50 line rent on 12 months contract. so totally £18.50 i think its a good deal for unlimited broadband and weekend calks.

I recently haggled unlimited BB with line rent anytime calls and 1000 mobile minutes for £18.20
Looking around and seeing a lot of deals. I am in the process of switching provider to BT. I have gone with BT as they are the only Fibre provider in the area right now. Is it possible if I get in touch with them I might be able to sweeten the deal as a new customer? The transition from previous ISP to BT doesn't complete for a few more weeks.

The sting is the £69 Fibre/TV activation fee. Cost is £17.99 line rental, plus £10 for Unlimited fibre inc. weekend calls. It does come with £100 Mastercard though, and I have £150 cashback tracked too. So not looking too bad.

who did you switch to and price
Anyone had any luck using Virgin offers as leverage? I'm looking at one that would (if I switched) save me £300 in the firts year and it's only a 12 month contract (plus extra box in another room, 200meg broadband, fewer channels etc etc)
Maybe if they offered me a Silver Q box package for free
I cancelled my contract with sky after their increase in land line price . I found a better deal with virgin free broadband for 12 months and cheaper land line ( even cheaper if you take the saver)
Sky have a bizarre system for offering discounts. I have a changeover in progress, and not a penny discount offered to stay with sky.
Good deal for those who fulfil the condition.
I cancelled my Sky package due to contract being up at the end of march and they could only offer me 10% discount to stay. I then went on line shortly after cancelling and used the "left within the last 12 months" chat option. I got 50% off current family TV package and £100 credit.I have also been upgraded from ADSL to fibre for £10/mnth with no activation fee PLUS a £25 credit. So all in I have Sky Family, Fibre unlimited + usual line rental, for £41/mnth. Happy with that.
They wouldn't offer me any deals maybe because I have a month left. So I have gone with BT. Hopefully tcb will track (has always tracked so far). Last year my tcb for my Sky package tracked at £152.50. Making my sky bill effectively £4 including family bundle. More people should go through tcb. It took a WHILE but did payout. The bt tcb for what I have signed up to is £126 also should get £50 gift card.
Does anyone know what Sky will charge for leaving about 3 weeks early?

Took me 5 seconds to find this

I am out of contract on my phone and broadband with Sky. Renewed tv a while ago and getting a good deal there. I don't want to be without phone or broadband so is it a 30 days notice same as tv? As in I can cancel on chat, leave it a week and then use the 'left sky in the last 12 months, thinking of returning' link?

Should be exactly the same procedure for broadband and phone, expect half price line rental, half price unlimited fibre.
