So, Sky just notified me of the beyond RPI price increase on my broadband contract. Long story short they eventually offered me a new 12 month contract for broadband and talk at £8.99 a month. If you are impacted by the price increase please contact them and haggle. My contract was due to end on June 2019 but their price increase means I can cancel early penalty free. £8.99 a month was the best offer they will willing to give to me so use that figure if you contact them.

From my experience, broadband speed is independent of the provider i.e. you can switch from Sky to EE (as an example) but the speed will not change. In your case, you are better off with fibre-optic internet connection which will be relatively more expensive but will provide reliable fast internet speed.
I contacted them by live chat. No way was I going to be on the phone for 90 minutes repeating " I just want to cancel"

Agreed, I was getting 11Mb from Sky at my new house but only 2Mb at my old house of non fibre. Not the providers fault just where I was living.

sorry should have been clearer, my point was what are you quoting here, for £8.99 I would expect non fibre which in most cases is to slow to do anything useful in this day and age, mentioned sky not as their fault but they were offering the cheapest deal that my mum had taken and the service for that price was pants regardless of provider

Yes, non fibre. 11Mb speed in my present house. Fine for working from home - Iplayer, Netflix etc. If you want faster speeds then it will cost you more of course. Perhaps somebody with Sky Fibre can update this thread with the best price they get offered for retention. My best guess is they will offer 50% off as a retention deal.

That's a very good deal with FibreBB included as an existing customer, I don't think you're likely to get any better than that even if you're contract is up & you threaten to leave. Happy to be proved wrong though.
Got this deal for a family member for the last 2 years - You can't go wrong for the price.

Well I have fibre MAX with PAYG landline currently paying £25pm, contract is due to expire in June this year. I was offered the very same package for 12 months starting from June however at £27pm with a £24 account credit to cover the cost of £2 increase for the entire year and a one off £2.70 admin fee.
I think I will wait until April bank holiday sales or end of contract which is in June.

Was this the first offer ? Did you then repeat that you wanted to cancel due to the price rise ? I had to state I wanted to leave 3 times before they made their "final" offer to try and retain me.

I did not threaten them to leave. Not that is the 2nd offer that they gave me which is a £24 credit for price increase.

Ah, you have to threaten to leave to get better deals. If they call your bluff you can always back out or cancel the disconnection notice. It's all about who blinks first.
I have fibre max for £20, no calls. Been really good I’ve been using my own router. I have checked and this will rise to £22. My sky q will also go up so in total I am having a £6 increase. I will await the email and at the very least get my broadband back down to £20 and probably cancel sky movies and probably sport but I do like my sport.

Guys no other company can get close to Sky Fibre in terms of reliability and Customer Support and Care. Remember that.
hah, phoned to cancel as I am currently paying £20 a month for broadband and evening/weekend calls, jumping to £45 in April, best offer was £29 a month, as in £108 extra per year - don't think so, they've removed cancellation charge so off to vodafone most probably, £21 a month including line rental, but no calls included, so will just use mobile allowance with them

Make sure you go via Quidco or Topcashback for a potential £50 cashback with Vodafone broadband.
Tried this again today following 2 previous chats with Sky about my deal ending and the price rising by £10 a month,i mentioned the upcoming price rises on top of the fact my deal was ending and i couldn't afford it i currently have broadband unlimited and talk with pay as you go, the guy just wouldn't offer me anything near the deal mentioned here he just tried upgrading me to sky fibre max at £27 a month ive only got a few days left before my prices rise so I'll try again over the next few days and hopefully get someone willing to offer me a good deal
Just went on live chat and got the same offer! (£8.99 for 12 months). Spoke to customer rep Rupesh Thanks OP!

You need to be an existing Sky broadband customer. Sky have announced beyond inflation price rises so you can leave your contract early. Sky don't want to have lost of people leave mid contract so they are offering better deals to those threatening to leave due to the price rise.

Isn't that a mobile data contract though? Do you know what their broadband is like in your area? Before you sign-up for their broadband you may want to read this (article from the Guardian 3 weeks ago): Vodafone tops most-complained about broadband provider list

I've been with Sky since 2013 & have to say they've been one of the best broadband providers I've ever had. Had been with O2 broadband before that for 5 years, who were as good. Sky bought O2-BB in 2013 (BBC article) & I just carried on with them ever since. I've been tempted to leave for other ISPs in that period (cashback deals are hard to resist sometimes!), but they've offered me reasonable deals to stay so carried on with them. Seriously, don't leave Sky for VF unless you're sure they'll be as good or better.

It's crazy, I was with sky and very happy with them but they wouldn't offer me anything off my bill when they tried to increase it from £15 to £25!
I was getting around 18-19mbps too (non fibre)
I'm now with Vodafone fibre, but not really any quicker for download, obviously upload much faster though at around 8mbps.
Good thing with sky though is the free call shield to screen out marketing/scam calls.
Last couple of years Sky go to up the price at end of contact, I go on live chat to Indian call centre where for last year I was on £8.99 , UK call centre wouldn't come close, this year as valued customer I can have £5 off so only £20 when everyone including Sky doing below £20 deals. Could someone please put up a link to the online chat please.
I rang up and got a fool who messed about and didn't give me an offer, I've got 30 days so I'll look around elsewhere, I couldn't get on Live Chat :(.
Glad I found this thread. I've not had an email but my broadband bill is going to rise from £21 to £31. Time to haggle or shop around I think!

How about the sh1T router ...Pretty pointless having all the above plus points then supplying a router which can't reach past 15 feet Inc the so called sky WiFi booster.I would gladly pay a little premium for a decent router.None existent WiFi upstairs which is hugely frustrating.

I'm also another o2 'refugee' but lately connection has been terrible, way too many drop outs or just wouldn't connect. Sky are blaming it on my old 10+ year o2 wireless II router so are sending me a new Sky Q hub. I might take advantage of the price rise to try another provider as I have another 6 more month to go and if it doesn't resolve by then. Currently paying £15 line rental + BB which I thought was pretty good deal at the time.

I was in the same boat last year and changed from normal broadband £19 to fibre £28. But I fond Vodafone giving £20 fibre after a day. Rang sky to cancel as I found cheaper deal and they gave me discount of £10 for the length of my contract. So I was back to £18 a month with fibre. But it might work for someone and not the others.
I tried to negotiate tonight. They would be taking £22.50 for normal broadband and line rental.
All they would offer is 36mb fibre at £27 a month,so I 've gone for talk talk fibre at £20 a month,no router or installation fees and £80 quidco (already tracked)
I will have about 2 weeks left to run on the sky contract after switchover,so as long as the letter comes, will use that to escape cancellation costs.
