Sky Broadband Retentions deal - £8.99 per month inc line rental and unlimited ADSL broadband

I know we're not all fans of a retention deal so might get chilly, but I was on the £9.50 a month line rental including free broadband deal (from MSE with £50 bill credit last year) ending in a months time.

Got on to Live Chat this morning through the "thinking of leaving Sky" to have a see what they could do.

They offered me (without pushing):
- 12 month minimum contract period (starting today)
- Free Unlimited ADSL for 12 months
- £10 off line rental (£18.99 down to £8.99) for 12 months
- Same 'Pay as you Talk' package as I have now so no calls (I don't ever use my landline)

Asked for an upgrade to Fibre (as seen others have it) but he said he couldn't do that without charging extra. Also I have to keep my Sky Hub 2 but that's fine as they only replaced it a couple months ago!

Total is:
£8.99 x 12 = £107.88

Has anyone who is with sky via app or online account, ever been able to see any notes under my help or similar ie from when you have spoken with sky advisor via phone, text or live chat etc? As I was informed by advisor on phone that even though I've now left sky I should be able to login sky account and see any notes on my account! But oddly advisor could not direct me to that part of my account as he said he was not familiar with sky account website. I asked if he could get someone else to help, then came back, saying unfortunately that part of sky account website was under maintenance

Just t let you all know. I rang sky to cancel because I do not require broadband anymore so I was not really looking for a retention deal. They are going to disconnect the line in 2 weeks time. A day after the phone call got an email saying "Have £10 OFF your Sky Line Rental for 12 months if you get in touch by 11th March 2018". ]

Will probably use this trick in the future.

Thanks. I took out the same deal as you for my sister last year so assuming it's due to end next month also. Will give them a call

What is unlimited ADSL?

ADSL is broadband, up to 17Mbps per second so 'slower' one. In other words, it's not fibreoptic.

It's what your sister has now - everything the same, just a bit cheaper per month (and without the bill credit, unfortunately)

Cheers.

She's been happy with it so I think she'll agree to another 12 months. Still a decent price

I'm leaving TalkTalk and yes they state upto 17mbps but in reality I never get more than 5.5 Mbps download and 0.9 Mbps upload speed.

They now want £22.50/month, so cancelled and looking for another ISP!

I actually get the 17Mbps - but then I am lucky enough to live round the corner from the exchange. Sky claim 11Mbps is the average. Sky also claim my line is synced at 21Mbps but I've never gotten that - sometimes an 18Mbps if I am really lucky.

ADSL works for me.
I'll have to do this because I'm thinking about switching to Vodaphone. My contract is until March 27th though so I'm confused as to when I need to call to avoid exit charges.

You might not have a choice if you don't have a cab and have an exchange only line as almost all of that type don't have VDSL support.
I got this email from them:

Great news! As a thank you for being a loyal Sky customer, we are extending your current free Sky Broadband Unlimited offer for another 12 months, saving you over £130.

We have automatically applied this offer to your account, so you don't need to do a thing. Plus, there's no new contract. Your offer will now end on 11/04/2019.

You will still pay line rental at £18.99 a month, so what I was offered is better.
I got free broadband and £10 off line rental, you've just got the free broadband (from what I read).

Thank you for that I've got a temp and probably shouldn't even be on here but I am and I'll probably buy something I don't need.
Is this speed good enough to watch Prime videos?

Two observations: 1 any replacement ADSL service down the same telephone line will provide similar speed; 2 a line being "cancelled" will likely involve a combination of line cessation and period of non-service until a new provider can activate its service, whereas a line "transfer" or "takeover" (rather than cancellation) would provide near-continuous service.

Yes, should be more than adequate - minimum 3.5Mbps required for HD streaming: amazon.co.uk/gp/…810
Be careful, ask if that excludes the 1 April £1.01 Broadband price rise, also call charges change on 1 May 2018 - I’ve posted it up so do your research on your calling patterns and ask them calling/live chat about these price rises if you are except -Sly
Stay and get this or go with the Virgin Uswitch offer?

decisions, decisions........
We’ve just gone from £23.99 line rental and broadband to £25 line rental and fibre
My MSE £9.50 deal is up soon, any idea on how much to upgrade to fibre as only getting 4-6 Mbps
I rang SKY for this deal but informed me that no such deal (no discount on line rental).
Isn't retention deal individual specific. So why is it a deal?

Who cares what it’s called.... deal or no deal it’s helping a lot of people. What is the point of posting that?

Thanks for the heads up OP

They basically said -

As offers are account specific. Have you received any email from Sky offering you £10 off line rental (£18.99 down to £8.99) for 12 months?
I didn't get offered it either. She's said best she can offer is £25 when I'm currently paying £18.99!

I went on and just asked them what they could do for me, I didn't get any emails or any offers - they offered it to ME!

Might be worth trying that route first (if you haven't already)

What was your existing package?
Did you speak to the normal customer services or the cancellations team?

All in the original post
This seems a really good deal considering the prices Sky are currently charging for broadband. I am coming to the end of my contract which was a great deal through MSE which worked out at £5.33 per month for the same product as in this deal. I have been impressed with Sky overall, I was concerned ADSL 17Mb would not be fast enough but it has been perfectly acceptable for my needs.

I would be really interested to hear from anyone who has managed to get this deal to explain the strategy they used to obtain it as it seems as though these kind of retention deals are hit and miss and lots of people are unable to get them. So people share your success stories and how you did it!
