Morning All

I've only been using this site for about 3 years and never posted, so here goes.

Sky has announced and now released it's new Sky Go Service "Sky Go Extra"

The new service allows you to not only stream sports, films, programmes etc but actually download them to your device for offline viewing. This is excellent if you commute !!!!

Sky has a much better choice of newer films than love film and netflix so for a fiver a month it really cant be sniffed at.

Not only that they have upped the amount of devices you can register to 4, which is brilliant if there's a few of you in your family.

I'm pretty sure you have to already have sky for this to work.

For those of you not familiar, Sky Go is brilliant, it allows you to stream a lot of Sky content to pretty much any device (iPhone, iPad, some Android tablets, PC's and Xbox 360) quality is amazing as well. It's literally saved my life on more than one occasion as it means I can sit on the sofa, iPad in hand with my headphones on watching the football, whilst my other half and little one watch dancing programs.

Anyway, there you go

Heat added - when you say that they have upped the devices registered to 4 - is that applicable to all customers - that would be handy for me.

do you need to be an existing sky customer?

Supermod

Thanks for sharing!

I also just noticed on the iOS update that you can register up to 4 devices and watch on two at a time. I am sure before it was 2 devices and watch on 1 at a time?

That's what I was wondering.

They've deffo upped the devices as I've just registered my Nexus 7. Haven't actually tried 2 devices at once yet !!!

I believe you do yes

I got 3 months free must b different deals for different customers

Sky customers only, but as the op says it's a good deal if you travel about a bit. Heat added.

"Get a free trial today - Sky TV customers can trial Sky Go Extra free for 2 months and pay just £5 extra a month after that. Download to watch popular TV shows and movies depending on your Sky TV package."

so are they charging £5 a month even if you don't download anything? This was previously a free service??!

Or......

If like me you know someone who has a Sky account (my mum and dad for example) they have sky but don't use sky go, so basically I set them up an account and then registered my devices with them. My nephew as well, they;ve moved house, he no longer has sky so I hooked him up onto my account and he can now watch the football on his XBOX 360.

Not sure I see your point ???

The free service is still there. This is just an extra to give you the ability to download content. I think it's worth it for the money, netflix doesn't let you do this last time I checked.

But if, like me, you just enjoyed streaming the football for free, £5 more a month would be just another sky add on/up sell.

That what I thought. Sky Go was always free. I used it as a version of multiroom so I could watch Sky while working in my office.

The nexus 7 has worked for a while now but dont root it!, any rooted devices wont work and nearly all generic android tablets wont work either. Shame on sky for that tbh

It's still a free service but only for 2 devices and you have to pay an extra £5 for an additional 2 devices (4).

4 Devices is also part of the extra service, you'll return to 2 if you don't stump up the fiver after the 2 month trial. Not voted either way, sky already get good wedge from me every month. They've effectively given you the choice of paying £5 on top of what you already pay to download content that you can stream anyway (you only get downloads relevant to the package you are on). We used to be allowed to register more than 2 devices when it was sky anytime.
Yes you need to be an existing subscriber.

I agree with what people are saying but Sky go is still free.

You're basically paying for extra (hence the name)

I think it's okay for the money, it's cheaper than netflix with a greater selection.

I would guess that this is probably against the T&C of using Sky/Sky Go?

Tell me about it, had to unroot mine to get it to work cos I want to watch the cricket in work !!! Gutted about losing CM10

Be careful if you change your device incase it's not supported. Not getting brilliant reviews in the play store, so I guess the trial could be quite handy!

How is it cheaper than netflix? Cheapest sky account with movies is about 40 quid.

To be fair the android version looks like sh*t compared to the iPad version. I mean it works but the ipad version is just miles better.

I meant for online content. Christ, I didn't realise this would cause so much outrage, hahaha. It's only a fiver !!!

Anyway I'm sitting here watching the cricket in work, that's good enough for me

Sky have been providing this service for free (to one device at a time) for a while now and it does work well + and i have been using it..it's good for loading movies up to tablet or netbook to keep kids happy in airports/planes/car etc.I dont see how charging us now for what is essentially same service (albeit allowing you 4 devices) is really a deal...i would say it's quite the opposite....but this is just my opinion....I will take up this new service and it will cost me £5 a month for what I have been recievibg for free for the last year.

Only a fiver on top of the £xxx you pay for sky every month already. Like I said they are giving you something back they took away when anytime became sky go, but charging you for the privilege. Downloads expire after a month or within 48hrs of first watching them.

sorry but sky are getting far too much from me as it is...NO MORE !

Hiya

Read through the thread, they are not taking anything away, they are merely giving you more options for more money.

Probably laying the ground for later in the year, when they stop making it free.......

I agree with what a lot of people are saying by the way, that Sky charge enough as it is, this is merely for people wishing to give this a go for two months (Yes two months free !!!! then cancel!!!! it's not costing you a penny haha)

Original Poster

Can I just add

I love how people are voting down a "FREE TO TRY" service

"What's that, it's free, nah you're alright they are right robbing ****"

haha

I don't see how its a good deal for Sky to charge you "Extra" for downloading content that you are already paying a subscription for and you can stream for free. It should be free really. I get that its more convenient to download and watch when not in range of wifi/3g and the quality should be better as not buffering etc but it's just part of Sky's ethos of fleecing us customers for as much as they can get. There's no reason why this can't be free as we're not really getting anything extra like more content etc.

Still free

I know it's only £5 but there must be many like me who already pay around £85pm roughly £1000 a year. It should be free.

Paddy_o_furniture

Still free

So i can keep the extra app as it stands today, download the content but as long as i keep the number of devices at two its free... sorry to seem thinck but i have read conflicting reports on this.

No it'll force you to update, then you can continue as you are ie stream stuff, or you can download stuff and enter automatically into the 2 month free trial (allowing 4 devices).

right ive downlaoded the update last night and tried a download so seeimingly in to the 2 month trial, im assuming there is an obvious way of getting out of this after the 2months.

Won't work on jailbroken iPad.
Won't let you use tvout cable either
