Sky Go Extra - Now free with a multiroom subscription

Found 8th Jul 2013
I've just had a letter from Sky, explaining why the bill will be going up in September - not so good there, but in the blurb about why we'll be getting a "better" service, it mentions that Sky Go Extra is now free with a multiroom subscription, previously this had been £5 extra. Sky Go Extra allows you access to Sky Go from 4 devices instead of 2, and also to download content to watch at a later date.

Edit: Potential Quidco of £8 for existing Sky customers upgrading online to Sky Go Extra...

local salesm an told me they can buyout my virgin contract is this true?

Sounds good to me, haven't got the letter yet though.

I got the same letter today

Don't need the letter just go to the Sky account page and 'Opt-in' and job done.

Will be interesting to see whether this goes cold just because it is Sky and shows how crazy 'deals' can be rated, maybe I will be proved wrong though

This deal isn't about the bill going up...the bill for TV subs is going to go up whether or not you opt to take the freebie. My bill is actually going to go down as a result of this now being free.

How much is September's increase?

I think it depends on what you subscribe to, mine is £1.50 (~2.4% increase.)

cheers...maybe BT throwing up a little bit of competition (sports) is finally getting sky to wise up as regards pricing.

BT Sport is only what ESPN had coverage wise. They also have the Moto GP.

Sky Sports have 116 Premiership games as well as the F1, Golf and Cricket and Rugby.

BT had 36 Premiership games, the Moto GP and some of the rugby coverage.

Hardly groundbreaking...

Mines going up by £2.50 I have Phone & Internet and TV and its only double the price I was paying just for BT internet which was dire. Sky is much better value for money and more reliable.

I would switch my phone and broadband from BT but I must be in the 15% of the country not within Sky's network coverage, meaning I could only go for Sky Connect, at roughly the same cost as I'm paying BT.

Fab, just added for free. Great spot, heat added.

Quidco is listing £8 for existing customers upgrading to Sky Go Extra too...shame I missed that but worth noting...

Just rung up, got this and movies half price extended for another 6 months thanks op

Nice one , that means Disney channel will now be on my daughters iPad rather than making me suffer it on the TV

Just one comment as did my first 'download' of a film that I wanted to keep on the ipad for watching on holiday, turns out any downloads seem to expire after 48 hours of first watch! Not sure if this is specific to certain downloads but to me this almost defeats the object of being able to download to watch later if you can only have it for 48 hours?

any idea when this became free as i paid for this a few months back

I noticed this too on the price increase (im on 75% off:pso will i only get an increase of like 55p?)

I just had a call from Sky regarding my fibre install this week (1/2 fibre and 6months free line rental :p) and the operator said he could offer go extra for free. He didnt believe me that I would be getting it for free soon any way as I have multiroom.

Maybe its done this way for existing subs?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and can't even use the service. £5 was a rip off and as they control the price I feel I can vote COLD for a "deal" like this.

This isn't a deal though. Sky are the only ones that can price this and therefore it is THE price.

does this tie you in to a new 12 month contract?

Err, not sure I understand what you have just written?

It was £5 per month (rightly or wrongly) it is now free, whether you hate Sky or not, whether you agree or disagree with their pricing (which most if not all of us do) the fact is this was a chargeable service and it is now free for those that qualify and therefore putting it on HUKD clearly makes it a deal for those who would not know about it otherwise, or am I missing something?

If you've got a Multiroom on your subscription then the Sky Go Extra is free.

I've also got access to my mother in law's account and she doesn't have multiroom. You only get 2 months free Sky Go Extra from what I can see.

I haven't had a pay rise for 5 years, so why should they?
If they put up my subscription I'll be leaving - though I bet they will give me a better deal to keep me.

Sky need to sort out their support for Android systems

Got the letter too, got 3hd boxes with entertainment pack, sports and movies, my bill is going up £4.50 minus £5.00 for sky go extra = paying 50p a month less, £6 a year every little helps!

nice one - and the folks will be none the wiser!

Thanks OP, I went through Quidco though I doubt it'll payout. Heated.

Nice bonus to having my discounted multi-room subscription!! I knew I took that for a reason... activated and heat added...

FREE? Nothing is ever free from Sky!

meh
got full sky package.
2 devices is enough for me.
Dont want an increase, dont need 4 connections.
maybe I should sub-let them out :oS

yep, goes up in Sept. & they be getting nothing in Dec. after sneaky tactics locked me into a new contract for a new box.
Unless they offer a better deal than virigin do.

I took out a new sky contract/installation in April, presumably I won't have to pay any increase until my year is up.
