Sky Go on your playstation 3 and 4. Free 2 month trial (£5 a month after)

Sky Go is available on PS3 and now PS4 for free if you have Sky Go Extra or Sky Multiroom and for those that don't have either, you can get a free 2 month trial (£5 a month after) when you download the app from the playstation store.

I haven't seen this deal yet on HUKD so hopefully this helps people thinking to get a multi room box or like me thought you could only get Sky go through your Xbox.

Take the trial, but I wouldn't pay for this. Unless something's changed from when I tried the PS4 version at launch, the picture quality is awful. Nowhere near what you'd get with Netflix or Amazon video, and it's full of adverts too.

Does anyone know how this compares with now tv's entertainment and movies? If I paid £5 a month - would that be just to use it on the playstation or could I watch on iPad/Mac etc? Thanks in advance.

You would need to have Sky subscription to use this. It is effectively Sky Go (which can be used on laptop/tablet/phone), but they only let you use the PS3/PS4 app if you have Sky Go Extra (either through paying for it on top of your subscription, or getting it free with multiroom).

If you do not currently have Sky TV and use Now TV, you will need to continue with Now TV

Should be free! Especially given how much people pay for Sky. Thieving sods!

A prime example of a greedy complacent company that's lost touch with its customers and its competition.
Won't be long before they go bust, if they carry on like this.

No tears from me.

If you cancel after the 2 free months Sky offer you another 3 months at £1 a month.

I don't think it's unreasonable to pay £5 a month for Sky Go Extra - especially as a lot of people share their sky go login with family members (i.e kids away at uni). I also don't imagine it was cheap for Sky to design, build and implement the Sky Go platform. It must also have huge ongoing costs to maintain. Can't deny that Sky Go is a fantastic service, and makes having sky tv a lot better.

You're already paying for a service, this should be included as part of it. What makes it worse to many Sky subscribers is that Sky actually throttle back the quality of the normal service, so those that don't pay for Extra get juddering standard definition video, with no way to adjust the quality (you only get HD on live on-line TV). The standard service is woeful compared to other providers, they give more devices and better quality with no surcharge. You're paying extra, for console support, there isn't any reason why it shouldn't be included with the SkyGo service, I doubt very much that the money you pay for Extra goes anywhere near research and development it's a service the rest of us (and the advertisers) have already paid for!

Can I ask what you base this on? Never heard of this throttling the quality before.

Woeful compared to what other providers? I would argue there is not really any direct competition to Sky Go (apart from arguably virgin's anywhere offering)

Would also say broadband speed has a lot to do with it as in my case its crap the picture is easily pixelated and jumpy in saying that Bt sport app is better but then again bt are promoting the sport on the app if you don't have sky to watch it on so more of their time is spent developing it

I've read comments on other forums that the playback issue (Sky do something odd with the frame rate with SkyGo, there's a stutter every second) and the playback quality (you can't select the quality - Sky decide) are a result of Sky throttling back the service for non paying users. That's direct from Sky representatives too. If you don't have Extra the service quality is dialled back. People thought it was a Microsoft Silverlight issue, but NOW TV use the same player and they don't have an issue.

SkyGo give you 2 devices, most companies give you 4, people are paying £40+ for Sky, yet they give you a limited amount of devices and a choice of devices (no console support). You have to pay extra, for what other streaming services provide as standard.

I disagree. Now TV picture quality was awful for me when I used it before. I have also used Sky Go with and without the Sky Go Extra and it's exactly the same.

What other companies give you 4 devices? and provide what streaming services as standard? Do you mean Virgin do? I would say Sky Go is by far the best online/streaming platform for paid tv services (i.e not netflix/amazon etc) and if you mean Virgin TV, it is more expensive than Sky TV (I have had both and Virgin is awful)

You're one of the lucky ones if there's no difference, a lot of customers have playback issues with SkyGo. When I talk about the number of devices, I'm talking about streaming services in general, if you subscribed to Amazon Instants or Netflix, you'd feel short-changed if you had to pay for more devices. 4 is a decent number and asking for more, for console playback is disappointing, when not everyone's PC can handle HD video or even have a PC in their living rooms. I have Sky and SkyGo but I'm limited to my PC only (and I have a console in my living-room).

And remember that you used to be able to download programs with SkyGo, but they removed that option and charged for it (and you used to have 4 devices too). They've just added a surcharge, there isn't any extra functionality or a new service with Extra (the service already exists so there aren't any further development costs either), they're charging extra because they can. If you were asked to pay £5 a month to watch catch-up TV through your Sky box would you be as enthusiastic?

The main thing is you're happy with your product and you're getting the most out of it, I'm sure I'll give it a go before the year is out, but at the moment I'm happy not to pay extra.
