Looks good to me - heat added.

So, in short.
half price free-to-view satellite normally £150 for Dish and digibox installation with all the non subscription channels

Certainly a good deal!

It's pretty good - I guess they have to do something special to have enough of a price difference with the 2 mixes and free sky + deals going round so £180 (inc sky +) for a year.

Hold on hold on --- i was jsut about to buy a crappy freeview box for £40 but i can get a sky box with a dish and loads fo channels for £75

My query is -- we have sky in the house -- im 18 so if i bought it im not an existing customer so i could technically buy it as a new customer

Box is free right ? and free inst?

wow is this for real? ever since virgin media took over telewest (which used to be great customer service) it's gone down in my books. i've been a customer since 2001 and a few days ago the server was down and affected emails for more than half a day (we're on cable tv broadband telephone package) and they told me to call a 25p per minute phone line (+ 10p more for connection!) because the 150 phone customer line people can't tell me if the server is really down. and this is about £45 in total my monthly bill on direct debit!

time to switch me thinks! anyone has experience switching to sky? is the broadband smooth enough (2mb at least).

ok am aware the deal applies to sky digital only.

Still got the digibox hooked up?

Can you get BBC channels/Sky News etc?

Got a old Sky Viewing Card? these are automatically made into FTV cards to get all the FTV channels i mentioned above.

If no viewing card for £15-£20 you can order one from Sky to get all the FTV channels.

Also if you wanted you could hook up a quad or octo lnb if you don't already have one, and have up to 8 seperately Digiboxs around your home getting the FTV channels, means tacking a wire from the dish to every room with the digibox though.

Have a look the extra channels you'll get with Sky over those you'd get with freeview. Very few of the extra Sky channels are worth bothering with. Also, you won't get E4 with Sky. This might not be an issue to you but I am mentioning it because of it's popularity in the 18-30 age group.

Can anyone find this for sale on the official sky website?

no e4 or sky 1

One quick question: can I add Sky broadband on top of this?

callan

no e4 or sky 1

I mentioned this by saying non subscription channels and by the epg listing link I provided and of course FTV being the sat equvilant of Freeview, hence Free to View...

But at the same time £85 quidco and £15/month minimium mix = 12x£15 - £85 = £95

So extra £20 = 12months Sky 2 mixes (i think), for 6mixes = 12x£21 -£85 = £167.

This half price solution is good if you don't want to mess with monthly charges.

No, to as said above, this is non subscription so no free/subsidised Sky Broadband .

Indeed interesting temptation offer, purposely done so when you signup, provide payment details they promise not to charge for 1st 6months, you forget about it and boom your're in a 12month commitment.

Which is a good point, anyone going for this half price offer means Sky is banking on you forgetting about the charges and just going along with it 6months later.

That a shame you can't order it through the sky site... £85 quidco would have been nice

Can you get the £30 deal for referring someone to sky as part of this offer?

I suspect while on the offer and you refer a friend you might.

Thing is the friend should go via quidco for the £85....

Sky wrote to me loads of times spouting I have to have my sky box connected to my telephone line as a part of my contract. Thankfully that stopped when I went past my 12 month contract.

The channels are really bad, hot deal for those who will actually watch the majority of them though. I'm going with freeview when I get my new tv.

Has anyone worked out exactly what is missing from this, that is available on Freeview. Off the top of my head this seem to be missing E4 (already mentioned above) E4+1 and Film4+1. I suspect that there are a number more. That would me it would not really be as good as the freeview option, save that it is via dish and therefore better quality reception than the tempramental Freeview broadcasts.

Has anyone got a complete list of what one is losing ?

FTV tend to be non subscription channels on 28.8 i think.

Also Freeview which everyone rants on about is far from perfect, with a far lower transmitter strength than analogue, until it's switched off and Freeview becomes the dominant signal but when the staged analogue switch off occurs, ALOT of blackspots will be appearing which FTV will help fill, BBC and ITV have agreed for HD content to be broadcast over FTV too, with CH4 showing an interest, HD on Freeview is years away meaning this option is more futureproof.

Also with all the Cable and Sky installations roof aerials, needed for most Freeview to work, has been neglected so £75 for alot of people will work out cheaper than Freeview box(es) and roof aerial installation

Subscription Sky (obviously various mixes and premium chans from Sky themselves):

Good deal voted and repped,

Can anyone tell me if the box you get the same as any other standard sky box???

I want to tune it to some other channels that are available, im not bothered about the freeview channels they look whack anyway.

Any advice would be most appreciated

This most likely or a older digibox refurb'd:]

A good valid point if you have a crap aerial, this offer would be a … A good valid point if you have a crap aerial, this offer would be a better option. Mines fine. The channels of any worth are on freeview, though the variety mixe would be a bonus for sure. To be honest, sky 1 and 2 were the only non freeview channels I ever watched.

Guesstimations:
20million homes
8million Sky Digital Customers
2million FTV Sat Customers
9million Freeview Customers

Freeview does seem set on overtaking everything but I quite biased against it do to the low signal strength and Sky being available, ANYWHERE without such signal crap problems.

Is this available in Ireland?

gonna get my mum this
she cant get freeview coz of the crappy aerial
this is the best deal out for her i reckon

seems ok il get all the asian channels free then!

schizoboy

a older digibox refurb'd

how do you work that out?

There are more Freeview customers than Sky? That seems very unlikely, I have a few friends/relatives that have it and it's appalling with pixalization and freezing all the time.

Sky Eire has to have different licensing agreements on TV programmes so this might be available to EIRE for 100euros or something, but i'd be surprised if it has. If you have a Sky Dish already setup in Ireland I'd be tempted to get a Digibox off ebay and find a spare sky viewing card/get someone in UK to order one and do it that way.

fair comment Shirley:-D  they gave me a new pace pvr3 and quad lnb free yesterday and installed it and I'm a year or more out of contract. so they are not all bad.

this is crap. Just pull the thing out of the socket when the engineer goes unless you plan to use the subscription things. I never use the red button for anything more than getting text services.

How is sky going to know? they update boxes through the sat link so it's just a scam to ensure you have access to their premium services like sky gamestar and voting for your favourite big brother actor.

Thats my 2p's worth.
