Sky are removing the Sky+ charge from 1st July.

If like me you subscribe to a couple of premium channels but dont really watch them to save the £10 a month fee you can now downgrade and save some money.

I will be going down from £32 a month to £21

If you havent got Sky+ just grab a cheap box off Eaby for around £50, add a Quad LNB for around £15, and add an extra cable and you can easily set yourself up for under £100

EDIT: If you are out of contract ring up and threaten to cancel, Sky are now giving out free Sky+ boxes, you need to speak to the cancelations department as these are the only people who can offer you this deal !

If you have Sky+ then it costs an extra £10 a month.

But if you subscribe to 2 premium channels it is free.

I was paying £21 a month for the Family pack and then got Sky+ installed, it would have cost me £10 extra for Sky + so i upgraded to package L1 which has 2 premium chanels and cost £32 so for the same money i got some extra channels to watch even tho i didnt really want them.

Now i can downgrade to the Family pack again and just pay £21 and not the £10 for Sky+ so i will be saving £132 a year

EXCLUSIVE: Sky scraps Sky+ subscription charge
Friday, May 18 2007, 16:02 BST

By James Welsh, International Editor

Sky has announced on the Digital Spy forums that it will scrap the £10 monthly subscription charge for its Sky+ PVR service from July 1.

The announcement by the Sky+ team confirms that the Sky+ charge "will be removed for all Sky Digital customers subscribed to any Sky Digital package" at the start of July. Sky HD customers are not affected, as the £10 Sky+ fee is already "waived", and should a Sky+ owner cease subscribing to a Sky Digital package they will have to resume paying the £10 per month charge to continue to access the Sky+ functionality.

Sky told our forum members: "Many of you have said that you want Sky+, but to get it, it needs to be more affordable. We believe that by removing the Sky+ subscription cost for Sky Digital customers, it will mean that more of you are able to enjoy the benefits of Sky

its from july 1st but they are using it s a retainer also from now, so if you out of your 12 months you can ring up and threaten to cancel and they will remove the charge for you now.

if you got the full package you wont gain any extra which is a bit of a joke but hey thats sky for you.

I pay £43.50 a month for the full lot. What on earth am I paying for? Must be next doors aswell...

About bleedin time, this whispers been going around for ages!

Nice to have it confirmed at last....

same here kirkie - shocking innit - plus theres not much on either!!!

same here!!! i watch my programs on the net, lost, prison break, etc as they miles in front, my films i d/l from newsgroups, why i pay sky £43 il never know!!!

how do i get tv on net? do i need a certain spec on my laptop? does it cost?

Technically it's not actually a good deal since they were ripping people off with that charge to begin with. It's just fair now.

Good one, openly admit that you download films and tv from usenet.

seems to take ages saying buffering?

Man that site is a bit bare.

wots the best??

I'd like to think they'd drop the price for the people paying for the full package too, but I guess that's wishful thinking eh

I'll be dropping movies from my sub as I was bascially keeping it because of the £10 charge for not having 2 packages. I've just not been watching many movies since the packagae revamp.

Now if they could ditch the non-subscriber £10 monthly Sky+ charge, I could downgrade all of the way...

already SKY+ subs. is free with SKY HD subscription

What about the changing the Viewing Card from a standard Sky box to a Sky+ box. Would a new card be needed?

Same here, I have sky HD so I dont save anything

Thanks for that - who cares.

I phoned up yesterday to cancel the films and the sports channels and the extra multiroom subscription. I was paying £53.50 a month.

After being passed around 4 different people to cancel each thing seperatley they did me a deal so i could keep all the channels for £30 a month for the next 3 months. I can then just phone up and cancel them again.

no wories, i left out the p**n

If this happens, might be time for me to say farewell to my TiVo (he's not been too well of late as it happens)

Can't understand why Sky? paying for tv when you can download it for £8 a month :whistling:

You can't download live football ;-)

At last!

Yes you can, you can stream it (with ads and all, so you're paying for it by watching them).

Crappy quality though, only useful for those of us who don't live in the UK so can't get decent football coverage.

exactly, the streaming quality is rubbish, if you want to watch the premiership in the uk you unfortunately have to pay sky for it.

I don't have sky+ at the moment, can I just buy a sky+ box or is there more to it?

Sound like this is only for existing sky+ subscribers.

Only for subscribers at the moment.
