Starting 26th May 2011 any existing customers calling to leave Sky wanting a 1TB box will be offered the box for £49.99 if they stay.

Source: I'm moving 01/06/2011 and Sky just confirmed to me it will be a valid offer from 26/05 and let me have it early. I've had this confirmed by two advisors now.

I understand them charging for a new box and am happy to pay but why do they charge so much to recieve HD?

Why would you be wanting a 1TB if leaving sky?

Cold from me. Ive found SKY very overpriced. Virgin media seems much more reasonable if in their area.

But the box is currently £300. So this is HOT.

This deal has come about due to the 500 gig tivo from virgin going for £49 got mine being fitted tomorrow

I agree, that why I will not upgrade from my sky+ box. I live in hope that the HD will go the same way as when sky+ first came out - paid extra per month then eventually it became free

I can see how the phonecall will go for me already.
Hi, I want to leave sky.
You know you have to give 31 days notice.
Yes I do.
Fine, thats done for you. Is there anything else?

Never offer me anything!

Just called, the girl had no idea what I was on about, she even went away and spoke to her manager and they said they knew nothing about this.

Very tempted with that 49.00 tivo box thats for sure

I don't know about this offer but when I phoned up last week and suggested I might be going to Virgin Media because of the new Tivo I was offered the HD 1TB box for £149, which I accepted. Lovely bit of kit, smaller, faster, and better looking than the standard HD box.

i got the tivo fitted yesterday its kicked my sky into touch now that my half price sky has finished skys way over priced

Well, the post does say Starting 26th May 2011 so it's not too surprising that they aren't offering it to you on May 23rd. Though I expect that is their standard response to people who phone up on a fishing expedition.

I phoned a week ago to cancel mine as my half-price package was expired. They offered me the same for £30 per month (£5 more than I was paying), for a package that is normally just over £50. They even adjusted this months bill to the £30 instead of £50. Got this for 6 months, no tie-in.

Heat added. Very good price to upgrade your existing 500Gb STB to the 1Tb version. Thanks OP.

Today is the day I escaped from Sky! They offered me an HD box for free to stay with them, and free HD subscription, without having to sign a new contract - wow! Then after keeping me on the phone for over half an hour, I really questioned them about whether this deal was real, as they had conned me before, they finally admitted that I would have to sign a new contract! I never want to have anything to do with them ever again, and completely resent having to pay £10 a month for HD - Freesat/Freeview HD is the way to go! With the money I'll be saving I can buy a nice new netcast TV!

I got my Thomson HD box replaced just the other week with a brand new Amstrad DRX890 the 500GB model for free as part of a program to get the Thomson boxes out of service as they do not support Anytime+. At the time I was offered the 1TB box for £149 but we rarely go over 50% usage so didnt see the need. Although saying that if I had been offered it for £49 I may of made the plunge.

What number is best to ring to cancel?

got a new FREE box arriving thursday.
told them old was faulty, got put through to indian call centre who were next to useless, asked to be put through to repairs who i then said the indian call centre had told me i was getting a free box fitted free as i wasn't paying monthly subs for a service that doesn't work.

I always find the best way to deal with Sky is to say that you or the missus have lost their job and that you can't afford the payments. When they ask what channels you watch, ALWAYS say the movies and sports because these are the premium channels. I have had a few offers over the last 2 years including free phone-line rental for a year, free HD for a year and also 6months half price subscription

any1 confirmed this??

I can confirm this! It's actually £49 not £49.99.
