Only problem is, you still need to pay £10 a month to make use of the hard drive facilities so £120 per year on top.

But you'll be able to watch the FREE HD channels without any subscription.

True but you wont be able to record anything, which is the main benefit of this sky+ facility

You can buy a HD+ box only for approx £120 or even less plus dish so similar price

The other problem is that the picture tends to freeze when there is bad weather and also electrical appliances can affect the quality of the picture due to interference. i've just got rid of sky after 18yrs and am loving the benefits of cable! No hassle with Virgin Media what-so-ever!

So after 2 months you will be able to watch the free HD channels and use the sky plus and pay nothing monthly to sky?

got one of these installed in Jan, and you actually get 3 months free not the 2 months it says on the box.

for those of us in non-cabled areas this is the best option especially if like us we needed a dish installed too. If we want to swap to freesat in the future its just a box swap and we could probably get a few quid for the box on gool ol' ebay. So far our service has been faultless and the HD content can be stunning.

Cheaper to get it from Sky ?

£49 for the box free instalation , £100 Quidco cashback and £50 in M+S vouchers

after the free 3 months , what are the free hd channels you get ?
do you get more free hd channels than freesat hd ?

cheers

BBC , C4 & LuxeTV are the free HD channels you will receive

I think when they scrap the £10 per month lark then sky will become the only one to have :-)

Which isn't worth it at all really. If you've gone to the expense of getting a decent HD TV and surround sound you may as well go the whole hog and get a decent number of HD channels.

ITV HD is only available on Freesat and will be for the foreseeable future from what I hear...

I cant see them ever dropping the £10 recording charge thats how they make their money. How many customers would they lose if they scrapped this charge 1000s.

They eventually scrapped it for Sky+, first of all they discounted it if you took sports and movies. I assume they'll follow a similar path with HD in a year or so...

Theres no need for sky to drop the £10 charge.
There competition VM, offer very little HD channels at present, so theres nothing to force sky to cut any prices.

I would get it if it wasnt for the tenner extra, I dont mind paying for the box. ;-)

I think they dropped the Sky+ £10 premium before the NTL+ box became a threat? Who knows though, I just think it will eventually go from HD. Probably as soon as they find they can't convince anyone new to sign up to the HD service without dropping it.

I am with you... £49 from SKY, and even with a 12mnth contract that is £169 inclusive of 12x£10 subscription but then £100 quidco back and £50 m&s vouchers make this a cracking deal (equiv to 12mths Sky HD for only £19) - excellent!!!

They may have dropped the sky+ charge but you can only use the recording function if your a subscriber. You can still record but it will cost you £10 a month so its not really been dropped at all.

I agree they wont drop the £10 charge as there is no competition, no other even comes close at the moment

I dont think you will get the m&s vouchers if you go via quidco

I've got a Sky+ HD Box from Tesco, for under £150, then I signed up to the Natwest 'Half Price for a year offer' offer. I managed to get a SKY+ Box and installation for free and have registered my Sky+ HD Box and have gone for all Sky Movies for under £20 per month. Managed to sell the Sky+ Box for £95 so I've managed to get a bit of a bargain in the end, especially as Sky didn't put my deal in place on time so I currently have 6 months free viewing.

I was told by a Sky CSO that there would be no charge for using HD later this year but I'd take that with a pinch of salt! Its only likely to happen when they launch Sky 3D or Fresssat/ Freeview HD kicks off.
