I think viber are doing the same also. Or something like this.
    Good cause, Skype
Good cause but advertising even better...
Who cares if it's advertising, if they didn't do it people would ask why not, because they have, it's a sales gimmick.

I just think that somebody there is human, and I applaud them.

    Excellent point.

Just a point to note. Nepal s one of the poorest countries on the planet and its mountainous condition is extremely hard to access in-out of the countries and many areas within the country.
bravo, hats off to you skype

    Yep. Pretty funny.
    Big thanks to Skype.
Everyone is saying well done Skype.
It's Microsoft you should be thanking, they are the parent company and no doubt had to green light this.

ie, it's like thanking YouTube if they were to dial back the aggressive advertising. It's Google you'd thank

Maybe I'm the only one that sees thanking a product rather than its owner as weird.

    Nevertheless well done Microsoft

yup, how dare they do this to these families. they should at least get paid for the advertising. /s

All of which are not owned by Skype, thus Skype cannot make them free.

Gaza has been bombed a few times now by ACTUAL PEOPLE, yet still, no one gives a ****. One thing outside a Muslim country, not even done by humans, but a natural disaster, everyone and their mums are tripping over to help/donate
Israel wouldn't allow this to happen in Gaza.

    Israel owns America via AIPAC.

Israel says "jump" and America says "how high".
Here we go as expected, an excuse now for some to get on their political soap boxes and rattle on about stuff unrelated to the deal.
Cold. I don't know anyone from Nepal or speak their language.
    Who uses Skype anymore lol

You got to be daft to make free social network app which are free.
The amount of free positive advertising this will get them will far outway the cost involved to provide it , It sounds like a lovely idea and their doing it from the goodness of their heart but i know better .
Excellent campaign Skype . Give the head of marketing a raise with all that extra cash .

Be fair, Microsoft didn't have to do this. Also wouldn't you rather applaud marketing campaigns that gave things away for free (and in this case for a good cause), than cynically criticise them?
