Skype Credit Top Up Cards HALF PRICE (WHSmiths + other)

Found 20th Jan 2014
50% off Skype Credit when purchased through participating Store. Search your area on the Skype Website for a Retailer near you. I used WHSmiths so think they would be nationwide.

£10 top-up voucher cost £5
£20 top-up voucher cost £10

Offer available from Jan 16-31st.

Actually only £8.70 credit added to account with £10 card, due to 15% Luxembourg tax. This is not Skype cheating you - if you topped up your account with £10 by credit card, Skype will take away 15% as well.

Only way round is to have a Skype account registered in a foreign country and a payment method registered in a foreign country.

Hot hot hot from me

Superb.

Just been to Sainsburys and I can confirm this deal works, although I'm feeling a bit violated as my £30 worth of Skype credit is actually only worth £26 when redeemed because ye cheeky beggars deducted 15% for Luxembourg VAT. Cheeky **** bags

Fantastic

Personally I think there are cheaper ways to call here & abroad than Skype.
We use nonoh.net.
You just top up £10 a couple of times a year - VAT is added to this too.
They give you FREE phone calls of up to 200mins a week (fair useage- try not to go over an hour each call) almost worldwide. This lasts for 4 months. Your credit remains and you can make cheap calls until it's used up.
We have close family & friends in US and Australia and never worry about phone bills calling them.
You probably shouldn't BUT we give the daughters in the US our login details so if we miss them they can call us. Never had a problem or got charged any extra for this.

excellent, gonna buy some credit for my mum

It sounded nice until I saw the T&C:

"50% off when you opt for a 12-month Skype Number. 33% off when you opt for a 3-month Skype Number."

That's just saying that if you commit to a Skype number for a period of time it becomes cheaper, has nothing to do with the discount on credit.

But Skype gives you video calls so better IMO and thus a HUKD.

Skype video calls are free though aren't they? Not saying this isn't a hot deal though.

Skype is easier to use though :-) I too use one of the Betamax/Finera/Dellmont (all the same company) companies - they have several VOIP presences - all different brands under the same company. Check this website for a price comparison:

backsla.sh/bet…max

In some respects it all sounds dodgy - but i've been using them for a long long time (maybe 5-10 years - can't recall) with no issues. They also provide SIP access, if you are that way inclined.

Just been to Sainsbury's Chippenham, they had loads of Skype cards sadly the deal is NOT active, even got someone to scan it for me to double check the price, looks like selected stores only

Hot deal I guess but there is definitely cheaper ways to keep in contact, most people have a computer / smartphone and access to the internet why not just call each other over Skype for free...... confuses me lol.

deducted 15% for Luxembourg VAT

However on the back of a Sainsbury's receipt it says..."Luxembourg VAT to be deducted at the time of redemption. Skype products are then charged VAT free"
So hopefully we won't get charged VAT twice

This is great, got mine from Castlepoint Sainsbury's this afternoon, loads left on rack just behind tills. Cards give £8.70 Skype credit once tax taken off.
Normally get £10 credit online and pay £11.50 inc VAT.
When we are abroad, wife uses Skype from mobile phone or laptop to her elderly Mother's land line. Recently used it to phone a neighbours land line in Turkey too. Very useful to have for us and heat added.

This is great, I think! Normally pay 20% VAT

Looking at online price of credit it seems to be 15% also.
Still a very good deal!

Hmm, just checked my skype acct and in spite of the note on the back of the Sainsbury's receipt it looks as if I've been charged 15% UK VAT as well as the Luxembourg VAT, which is a bit of a ripoff!

Sainsbury have it advertised but no cards, says offer ends February 2

Been for a trip - local WH Smiths does not carry Skype cards and local large Sainsbury's does not know/is not participating in this offer.
Cold for unreliable offer despite appearing to be national.

They are hard to find! Hidden amongst the "gift cards" on a rack full of itunes and other stuff.I bought a few at WH Smith, although they didn't know they stocked them..
Careful though...the wife got in a bad situation at Sainsbury's where they activated the card and it was the full price. Once activated you've really got to buy it or end up in the hands of security.
All in all a bit of a pain, this offer

I've just bought one £10 skype Giftcard for a £5 in Edinburgh Sainsbury and got £8.70 credit .
Thanks

Finally bagged 2 x £10 vouchers in Sainsburys Winnersh since Farnborough branch did not want to recognize this deal.
And topped up my & sons Skype accts. No VAT at the till so you discover you pay it when you redeem the v(ouch)er!
But that VAT probably pays to maintain a Luxembourg prince's castle so at least not wasted on HMRC.
So thanks OP but can't vote hot now as voted cold after both WH Smith and Sainsburys completely failed to deliver in another town.

Sainsbury in Derby don't have the offer as far s they know. Lots of cards but not marked down

GRRR!!! Paid full price for a Skype number 12 month subscription 4 days ago!!

Doesn't work at whsmiths travel shops e.g. Railway stations

Went to a couple Sainsburys was sold out. Got it on the 3rd so thanks. £30 for £15. Wasn't advertised but automatically came up at the till.

I'm interested.. however does the credit expire after a specific time (i.e. if I buy £50 have I got to use it in n number of months)?

If you don't make any chargeable calls for 180 days, Skype credit becomes inactive. Bringing it back is very straight forward so, simply log into the Skype website and press the relevant button.

What do I do about inactive Skype Credit?

Is really a very good discount
