I imagine the discount comes up when you pay with Paypal?

Correct. Gets hot from me.

To get the discount click the button, near the middle of the page, that says Pay with PayPal. This automatically adds the first offer but you can add another one from the list of recommended options then remove the one you don't want.

Been looking for a decent solution for when BT replace my home hub 2 and take voip away. This will do fine. Thanks.

I've already gotten one. Thanks

I suppose it must work as it's linked to a router via RJ45 cable, it doesn't use a telephone line, just the internet through a router.
Same principle skype to skype call are free, but can you actually call any landline/mobile number from skype using uk account from outside UK (say Sydney)? I suppose you can, as long as you have credits in your skype account.
I don't work for skype, but I use skype a lot and it's cheaper for sending SMS in the uk than having PYGO sim card to send sms.
I hope this is clear, if not just ask.

Sorry, my mistake, it does connect to your landline via the adapter.

That isn't strictly true. I've been waiting for a device like this for a while it connects to your broadband router, home phone line, a standard phone inc cordless and a power socket. It then allows you to make and receive calls through your home phone line or via Skype. The benefit here is that you can subscribe to Skype to get good rates on calls to normal lines lines and also benefit through using free Skype to Skype calls.
I do not know if there are any restrictions in using it as a Skype only device but I can not see why not. I'd be interested in if anyone has any good reviews.

seems to be shipped from a company in Hong Kong, as the official supplier for Skype accessories.

Not sure if it will arrive in time for Christmas, even with the UPS!

I was trying to establish whether or not it works with cordless. So that answers that then. Couldn't find it in the blurb anywhere

This deal is for the coreded one, for cordless see here it does cost a lot.
I prefer in this case go for a cheap android mobile phone as they must have skype and wifi, so you will have all the android experience plus skype (my opinion) I saw one for £70 here at HUKD :-)

just plug your cordless base unit in there and use as you would a corded phone, have a similar set up to keep in touch with my folks abroad

i thought skype calls were free but this mentions connections charges. Confused

Skype to Skype calls are free but if you want to breakout from Skype to landline\mobile then they do charge for that and have packages available to make it cheaper.

You can root the home hub 2 and run it as an IP-phone and WiFi router.

Planning to take this little thingy abroad, but the link told me it is only available to use in the UK.

Official site did not mention any location restriction though. Guess I will just use iPhone skype app which is free so I dont end up buying a worthless junk when taking it abroad X)

Quick Q
If the caller (local) and receiver (abroad) each have this adapter connected to their router, will that count as a free skype to skype call?

What's the delivery period?
can they deliver before Xmas?

Alternatively just get a skype-enabled phone.

is it just one off cost?

Got it, many thanks. I have skype on my andoid but this would be convenient for making receiving skype calls at home too I suppose, or maybe not necessary.

True, its no deal. It will only benefit if u already have an iphone 4 or ipod. Most kids got the ipod touch so it will be useful to make free calls lol

I ordered mine it took two weeks to arrive!!!

This is a HOT deal just for the 3 months unlimited worldwide calls, thanks you've saved me about 300 quid

just found out how one accesses their skype contacts on a none skype certified phone using this Freetalk Adapter
amperordirect.com/pc/…tml

Basically, you setup speed dials for each of your skype contacts. You can't really tell if they're online or offline, you just have to guess and call

Edited by: "rapid111111" 19th Dec 2011

FYI my Skype account was hacked last week and after no calls for ages suddenly there are calls to Indonesia, India, etc until every single penny of my credit was wiped out.

LUCKILY I did not have a credit card attached to the account on auto bill, as from reading more into this problem, it would have continued to have been used.

I contacted Skype who REFUSED to refund the credit which had obviously been used fraudulently.

Just letting you know, as unlike a landline where this can't happen, your Skype account could end up costing you a load of money in fraudulent calls, and they simply don't care.

Bullocks, paid full price a couple of weeks ago and received a faulty unit

Heat added.

The reviews for this adapter on Amazon aren't very good...

I'm not positive that worldwide is truly worldwide - when I looked at this it seemed that it was limited to a number of countries, and a connection fee applied:

skype.com/int…er/

** The actual number of minutes may vary depending on your calling destination and the number of calls you make. A connection fee applies.
***Unlimited calls to landlines and mobiles in Canada, China, Guam, Hong Kong S.A.R., China, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Thailand, United States
Unlimited calls to landlines only in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Luxembourg,Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia (Moscow and St.Petersburg only), Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom

I have an unlimited one country (not Europe) subscription which is about £35 annually for unlimited minutes. It saves me literally thousands per year.

A similar & cheaper alternative is to get a voip box (I use Linksys PAP2T) and provider. Normal phone plugs into voip box, voip box plugs into router. With my current provider I pay £10 a month and can ring the UK and 30 odd other countries landlines for nowt Even though I live in Australia I have a UK, Hemel Hempstead based number, hence, my relatives can ring me without worrying about call costs. You can get voip apps for mobiles too giving you the flexibility of using you mobile as a landline.

It looks like the connection fee only applies to the first two packages. So if I didn't already have a subscription I would go for the £22.49 package.

Good deal if you like skype. Personally I have a sipura and cheap voip provider.

Would that include calls to mobiles? I really need the cheapest VOIP offering from UK - > Spain mobile option (just the one number) then I'd be happy as even Skype is costing me a fortune!

to get the discount you need to just copy and paste the relevant link in the thread itself

would you need to pay for a landline as well or just a phone?
