Sky have teamed up with Devialet to produce their own soundbox which is available at a heavily discounted rate for Sky Q and other Sky customers in Autumn - Pre-registration link is on the page

*Edit - Unexpired and comments from initial reviews as per below:

Wired - One thing seems certain, if you are an existing Sky customer and qualify for the subsidised pricing, then you will not be able to get another TV sound system anywhere near as good for the money.

TechRadar - If you are a Sky customer, then this is a cut-price bargain. We can't imagine the technology inside being found anywhere else at this price point.

Stuff - Possibly the best-value TV upgrade ever...

Expert Reviews - For the discounted price of £299 or even better at £249 for Sky multiroom customers, it sounds utterly amazing and looks like it's going to be an absolute steal.

You can read all about the technology on the link but the highlights are the seamless integration with bespoke sound profiles for different types of sports/films

Not exactly cheap at £200?
Can see these being under £100 in under a year.

It is when it comes to mid-range soundbars with similar spec!

In a year, I can see Sky giving these away to new customers...
Hahaha comical yeah right no thanks
They revealed they will show programmes in Dolby Atmos yet announce a soundbar which doesn't support Dolby Atmos....logical!

To be fair I think you need additional speakers for Atmos support and then they would lose appeal to the majority market that just wants something to plug in and go without the faff of a 'real' sound system.

Interesting idea this soundbox anyway, would definitely add value to their packages, when they inevitably decide to bundle it as sales won't be great at £250 on top of an existing Sky sub but I'd still be interested to see how it does compared to the big brand sound bars....
Does it stop playing audio if you cancel your sky package?

No further speakers are needed, see the LG SJ9. It's a shame as Sky could have got in ahead of the game if they made this compatible with the new technology they had announced on the same press release. Anyone reading it would expect that the soundbar they are releasing would showcase their new sound technology but it doesn't.

If they included it in the subscription it would be loaned like the sky Q boxes. It would have to be included with little extra cost. Not sure why sky are bothering!
Devialet is a quality hifi brand though, specialised in getting big sound out of small boxes, so if it is a true Devialet product it should be a great (and value for money!) option for people that want fidelity without the bulk of traditional soundbars / 5.1 sets.

Think you're wasting your breath 😁

Much of the internals are taken from speakers of theirs that costs over £1300 and with the channel/sport specific audio profiles I can't wait to hear how it sounds, personally.

Well I don't think anyone would argue Hi-Fi is a money saving hobby (although I'm still waiting for a HUKD bargain deal on Pathos amp, Martin Logan electrostatic speakers and suitable media player...)
Devialet are quality, but agree that I see these being chucked out for free in a year or so.

BTW; they never asked for my Q boxes to be returned.

Would that suggest you consider 200 quid expensive for a soundbase/bar then?

Marketing is great.
Whilst I'm not a Sky customer and have no intention of becoming one, I am still interested in this as it looks like being a good quality soundbar (atmos support aside). I have signed up to learn more about it for now. Whilst I don't see myself getting one in the near term, I suspect when they inevitably become bundled with TV packages, those who don't need/want them will be sticking them on eBay and the price will quickly fall. Provided of course it doesn't some how need the Sky Q box to work, but then they couldn't really sell it to everyone.

Wonder what they do for the lower frequencies though as the unit doesn't appear to have a sub? (unless they just aren't showing it since subs are usually quite boring to look at)

A similar thing happened with the Virgin TellyTablet, where they can be found WAY under RRP on eBay from people getting them with mobile contracts. I somehow got one for £80, had minor screen damage (scratches), but still more than usable....

It has many drivers. Full range and woofers. There's no separate sub.
are they still doing friends and family offer for new sign up to sky q?
Sounds like a bargain for Sky customers, given the brand quality involved.

It does seem strange they've not included Atmos in there given Sky are pushing that out. I have it with BT UHD Sport and the football sounds amazing through my SJ9 (got from Alza for £660 - perfect customer service)

Unexpired now initial reviews have been written - which are overwhelmingly positive.
I got one, tried a few sound bars around the £300 mark and have all had issues with clarity, wireless sub drop out etc.... Philips, Sony, Samsung, they have all been sent back... This is in a different league though, would it beat a 5.1 surround system? ... Nope, but it sounds pretty incredible for the £250 I paid and when watching a UHD movie on Sky Q or Sports in UHD it shines with the Q sound.... There's a few features that sky could have included but hey ho.... Fantastic quality product
