Seem quite stylish and beautiful but not sure about practical, slate is a brittle material, how likely are these to crack or chip?

Very tempting though, 8 pieces in total for £9.99.

Very nice, and they're even in stock at my local store! Voted hot.

excellent deal, i have seen the slate ones in debenhams for £5 each (per mat) and £5 for the set of 4 coasters

They're rubbish!
Not really, I couldn't resist "slateing" them.
I'll get me coat.

I would like to see them first, but they do look quite smart.

Have reserved a set for my wife to pick up later.

Heat added.... shouldn't make any difference though, as I see they are 'heat resistant'... sorry!!

Might do the kitchen splashbacks with these. Cheaper than Slate tiles.

Ive got them and they are terrible, any oily stain on them and the coaster is ruined.

Hadn't thought about that... I wonder how you are supposed to clean them?

Not in the dishwasher presumably!

Sorry, not comparable.

I have the ones from Debenhams, and have seen the argos ones ones on a friends table, and the debenhams ones are better quality than these. They are much thicker (about twice as thick) and so much stronger, less likely to break etc.

Not saying its not a good deal, as it looks like it is, but you cant compare the two directly on price.

And again, result of cheaper products. The ones I have from Debenhams are well coated and have never had any trouble with staining.

Just clean by wiping with a damp cloth/vinegar/lemon juice solution. Works for almost everything.

lol, look at me, an anarchist discussing how to clean his coasters.

Irony?

You could try sealing these with the type of sealer used with natural stone flooring, I have a slate floor in my kitchen/dining room and the sealer stops any staining whatsoever.

Or an anarchist spending £20 on placemats, although you could say you liberated them.

LOL :-D

Seems like a hot deal though...i bought a set of 4 slate coasters fae Tescos for a fiver a while back...think they were a bit thicker than these, but thickness is not too important as long as u dont throw them round the room :-D

Just a quick note...

I've had this Argos set for about 12 months now. There's no problem with chipping or cracking, but be warned...if you don't clean coffee/tea stains off them immediately, they never come off. I've got a couple with "coffee rings" on them, and no cleaning product yet has managed to shift them. :?

I have these and yes they are great but as mentioned earlier they are hard to get rid of the oily marks that can appear, I put mine in the dishwasher which doesnt seem to effect them any other way, they are heavy by the way...cant beat that price so might go in and get more..

Hmm, thinking about these, you would want them to be slightly 'thick' so you do not feel scared about them breaking, and you would want them to be glazed so they are easy to wipe.

In which case, why not go to a tile store, and get 4 large square tiles, and 4 small quare tiles (in the very many different designs they have available, including natural colours and materials such as slate) and save yourself quite a bit of money.

I mean, look at the ones in debenhams, and I swear to God they look exactly like tiles.

We bought 2 sets of these just before Christmas at full price. We took them back as both sets had a couple of items with chips. They seemed very prone to chipping and although half price seems like a bargain and they look lovely and stylish, I wouldnt have them if they were giving them away now.

I've had a set of these for almost a year and don't see the problem. Mine are kept on the dining table so never really get movfed, just give them a wipe every week and they are fine. To chip them you would have to give them a fair whack! With regard to tea stains, I haven't had a problem but on any place mat if you don't clean it in good time, stains are hard to remove.

Highly recommend these, voted hot!

ive been looking for some mats like these ,these are excelent price... ive orderd 2 sets,at this price i cant go wrong if one chips . HOT
