Fantastic device if you live or spend time outside UK. Using your broadband connection you can watch UK freeview TV on an internet broadband connected computer.
Great price, paid over £100 for mine some years ago

I thought so too but I'm sure it'll be sub-zero before to long.

Ive got one too and great for when im away on business in the UK i can watch sky sports etc in hotel rooms rather than the usual dreadful choice of channels you get in most hotels.

Id recommend it

Can i use this on a Mac or watch tv on my iPhone 3g?

There is a mac client but no Iphone or Linux client

sucks

If you want to watch TV on your PC over the net just use "Zattoo" it free and works a treat, just a small download.

Mike..

zattoo - will check it out

thanks.

Got one of these in work...great for whiling away a saturday afternoon instead of doing work...

Be careful if you have a broadband allowance. This uses p2p.

Zattoo only has freeview-type channels. It certainly doesnt have sky sports

The Zattoo channels won't work outside the UK either, certainly not BBC channels anyway.

Thats what proxies were invented for, genius. Or you could try one of the dozen or so zattoo-clones out there

super hot price - 50 quid is a steal!

Can you watch TV on a TV when abroad? or does this only stream to a computer? I'd like my Sky when visiting family abroad.

Mark.

You will need a 1meg connection at either end of your origin and destination at least.

It goes TV>Slingbox>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Computer>Connect computer to TV abroad via TV-Out.

You can control from your computer abroad the remote control at home, you make sure no one at home is using or you have a multiroom or a cheapo freeview connected.

Thanks Einstein. I'm sure he was about to hook it up to his bolivian dial-up connection.

And a Slingbox doesn't use your broadband allowance?

Sockpuppetuk;3878230

And a Slingbox doesn't?

Nope

I have a Slingmedia Classic - "with Freeview tuner"... well it is a Freeview tuner, of sorts! It gets most channels, well, sometimes it does, then sometimes it doesn't - not related to signal strength, in fact I haven't a clue WHAT it is related to!

Do your homework on this if it is using it with Freeview you are mainly wanting it for - it works fine with other inputs eg. Sky, but the Freeview tuner is quirky to say the least - it is a well documented problem, and there is NO workaround.

Also, remember too, only one user can connect at once.
It occasionally gets used to watch TV on another PC on the network, and very occasionally across the internet, but it gets used a lot less than planned.

Why do you need a cheap freeview connected, I read this as having freeview built in?

I use TVCatchup instead of Zatoo as it runs direct from the website (bit like iPlayer but much higher quality)

A slingbox won't serve the content from your PC to every other user in the civilised world
I use my sling for watching sky upstairs thru homeplugs

If you want a reliable Freeview source, I would suggest using a cheap Freeview box to input, rather than the useless tuner inbuilt

Are there any differences to the slingbox solo?

e.g. Resolution etc.

as usual no stock witin 100 miles of me ..... :x

Don't think i'll bother then if it's that bad. All very well having an external tuner connected but then you wouldn't be able to change channels remotely.

Does "R&C" mean "reserve and collect" ? I tried that, and going in personally to the Brentford store, and they had none unfortunately...

yes you can, it comes with 2 IR blasters plugged in, so you can change your Sky channels or control your sky+ to playback what you've recorded! My power supply has gone on mine and Ive tried 2 different replacements to no avail. I REALLY want another of these - of course, none in any of the 9 stores up to 50 miles away. Will happily pay someone inc postage...

I have tried using proxies but either they are rubbish or sites like iPlayer know about them and them as well. Is there any alternative to setting up my on proxy server at home. What are these Zattoo clones of which you speak?

There's one of these in my local store but with a plug missing. The price on the box was £79.99 because of missing plug.

I got them to scan it at the checkout and it's down to £49.99 but not sure if it's worth it with missing plug

I assume by plug you don't actually mean the mains plug but anyway all of the leads can be easily picked up maybe even in your local pound shop.

Heat added

Great device, had mine for over a year - never had any issues with the built-in Freeview tuner, and also have an IR Blaster pointing @ my cable box for Virgin channels......

Works great on netbook/laptop etc., running Windows and I also have the Symbian client installed and fully functioning on my N95 - brilliant for watching Eastenders when away from home

These are the Slingbox Classic ... which I believe don't have quite as good compression as the newer ones (I think Solo is the new equivalent). Still, the Solo is twice as much so not sure it's worth worrying about.

Stock in my local store of Bath/Bristol ... just reserved one ... hot!

Chester had a few of these on the shelves on boxing day. All pristine.

Might be worth a look if your local.

I picked up a Nikon D40x DSLR kit from Wrexham for £149.99. Got home, no lens. I was very cheesed off last night. The box appeared to be heavy enough not to doubt it. Some you win.......
