Just got one of these for my wife's bike. Great deal for less than £6.
Plenty good enough for on road use to be seen. Two would probably be ok for mountain bikes in the woods at night.

Fits standard 25.4mm bars, not the oversize ones.

Seems a great deal, as for the handlebar limitation, I found this on my oversize handlebars, there are cheaper options available, but none better than the Minoura Swing Grip SG3, which not only frees up space on your handlebars but allows a generic fitment for lights, cycle computers etc etc.

I use one and it fits great round my Raceface aheadset stem bar, I use a bit of helicopter tape underneath the metal strap to protect from scratches, and it hold great.

Cheers - ordered a couple plus one of these rear lights jejamescycles.co.uk/id3…tml

It's reduced to £6.84 from £16.99.

just ordered, and also got the rear light mentioned by KRF1963

Cheers

I bought the exact same front light featured here plus a 3 led rear from deal extrreme for under £5 dealivered last year - the front one has just given up the ghost though

just found the link

That isn't the exact same at all, DealExtreme sell very cheap knock-off's, not their look-a-like branded cousins.

ordered mine. Thank you xx

Yeah, that's not the same light. Smart lights are good.

thanks op,

great find and perfect timing, broke my old one over christmas, exactly what I need today.

nice one, might actually get seen now!

Great price but shows how pointless RRP is - ]another site says it's £12!

I've used J E James before, and they're a good company. I ordered two of these plus two of the 7 LED Smart rear lights ]http//ww…tml to match. For just over £21 with free post and packing this is an excellent deal.

If thats the one i ordered from Deal Extreme (cant seem to get the link working for some reason) and it looks similar to the one above dont bother. Its cheap and nasty and after 2 journeys it packed up (kept turning off).

Just Ordered thanks again

Good finds, anyone know where i can buy some decent cheap mudguards for my mountain bike whilst we are on this topic???

I bought this exact light a few weeks ago when it was mentioned in a post. It didnt fit and I woudn't say it has oversized handle bars. It seems very bright though assuming you can get it to fit its well worth the money. No good for me though.

Hehehe, No.
You could have a dozen of these things on your handlebars and they wouldn't be suitable for night riding.

HTH

Agreed on the Minoura Swing Grip though (I have one).
As for rear lights, there's only one choice afaiac; the Smart SuperFlash models.

Bought a lot of torchs etc from deal extreme and every single one of them has stopped working - dont use them.

Okay, great - we won't order anything from Deal Extreme...

...but this light is not from Deal Extreme.

This looks like the same light on the deal extreme website at roughly $5.
Looks exactly the same.
Smart is generally a good brand, but are you saying that you bought this exact same front light and it packed up ?

I have one of these and I have to say its pants for lighting up the tow path along the canal.
Ok to be seen by others but dont expect to see anything yourself if its really dark.

Yes, but that's the same with all lights like this.

Precisely what I was going to say, I have a twin halogen bulbed spotlight set with a nicad battery that slots into a water bottle carrier for anything remotely offroad.

These however are economical (being LEDs) and great for road use, and road use only.

As much as I try on here to tell people otherwise, people time and time again get conned by fake carp from DealExtreme, I have mentioned to the mods even, and yet surprise surprise dealextreme deals are never banned despite the fact that in the terms and conditions of posting on HUKD it states no fake goods....duurgh.

But these aren't fake goods so much as cheap imitations - they don't pretend to be Smart-branded do they?

Well I got mine today - supposedly posted First Class last Thursday so don't know why it took so long.

Anyway, I'm glad they didn't advertise it as coming with batteries because the ones it came with were best before Jan 2006 and were flat! Makes you wonder exactly how long these have been hanging around.

Bluer and less focussed than my old Cat-Eye EL300; doesn't help that the LEDs are not quite aligned, but you can take it apart and tweak it. It's also got no voltage booster so no wonder they recommend alkalines - with only three cells (the EL300 uses four), I am imagining that rechargeables are not going to last long, and it's madness to use disposables in bicycle lights.

Altogether fairly mediocre, but I suppose just about worth the money.

I ordered one on the 5th Jan and it has not arrived. I have not heard anything about any delay, and it is still in stock. Have emailed to ask what's going on.

LED technology has improved in the nearly six years since these were made (according to the PCB). I bought ]ten cheapo white LEDs from DealExtreme for £1.30 and have just replaced the ones in the lamp. They are much brighter.
