I suppose at least you can scream out to Alexa to call an ambulance or where the nearest hospital is

We had the first version and it was a waste of time. It didn't work half the time through the app, and after 3 months it just stopped working! As much as I like my gadgets an ikettle isn't on my must have list.
Get yourself a smart plug , plug kettle into , turn off smart plug and turn on kettle. Then tell alexa to turn on smart plug. Bit of a faff but it's a cheap way of getting a smart kettle. Just have to remember after using it to turn off switch and turn kettle switch to on.

...or go to a nice kettle. Fill with fresh water. Turn on. Wait 3 mins. Make tea. Enjoy.

most kettles would have circuitry in there to avoid the switch staying in the on position with no power,, its a bit similar with toasters too, as stops any safety issues with power cuts etc..
does this model give you the choice of making tea or coffee?

Some do , but most i've found will stay on when the power is off. It's not an ideal situation and I only mentioned it because it's an alternative way of having a smart kettle. To be honest I always forgot to leave the kettle on and switch off so I still had to get up to manually turn the kettle on anyway.
