Whilst I agree with the sentiment of its a Sticker - if you were Jonny or Jenny good for nothing crook wearing gloves and carrying a crowbar and some grips would you tackle the house/caravan etc. with a SmartWater sticker or the next door neighbours without? I'll take every deterrent that I can if if means they move on elsewhere.

Even better "if" the goods ever get found and they end up in the slammer for a while.

Nonsense really, as most burglaries are done by druggies looking for stuff to sell quickly to fund their habit. I doubt they would be that bothered about seeing stickers!

If SmartWater really was that effective, everyone would be using it - but they're not. At least burglar alarms provide enough noise to scare off even the hard of thinking

Voodoo Curse or 25 Stone Skinhead Lives Here stickers would work better in my area.

Thanks very much OP. I had just been thinking about this earlier on. Have ordered, heat added

Not in my case, first time offender got caught and admitted to doing over 100,yes 100, thefts / burglaries he even took the Police on a drive round showing them where he had robbed; he didn't get a prison term or even suspended sentence.

Put out fires,can he?

Gunner, this dog would put out the fire with one bark followed by an ass kicking for the junkie who lit it. Although he is getting on now at nearly nine years old he is still as mean as a junk yard dog and jumps the 6 foot fence when running at full pelt.

25 years for burglary as a minimum I say although five rounds with Big Ron might do just as much!

One of the best pictures I have seen on here. Lovely dog mate.

We got ours free when we was visited by the glorified traffic wardens I mean PCSO's ... I didn't bother putting the sticker up.. It'd be too dark for them to see it anyway

Considering the original price of £59.88 is per annum...and the discount code reduces this to a £25.00 'one-off' - this is practically a steal (pun not intended).

There aren't many criminal deterrent brands that can boast such impressive independently verified stats - www.smartwater.com/literature/Perpetuity_Report_EMAIL.pdf

Evidently the criminal fraternity fear what they cannot see!!

Putting your confidence in the police aside, surely it's better to have the opportunity to trace your goods and irrefutably confirm ownership in the event of theft - I for one will be making use of this offer whilst it's still live!!!

Please have some heat....

Is this the same stuff that has locked up the idiots who bash the guys on the head for the cash box? for £25 it's a no brainer to take a punt. I for one will put the sticker up if it means it'll make them think twice what is marked or not and stop them from coming in in the first place.

Nice spot. Might have got one of these kits anyway and I guess 60 quid a year down to £25 one off is a decent discount really.

Are you able to do that on their behalf...I thought these were registered to each individual? Might have to start taking orders for the less 'IT-savvy' members of the family!

Also, how are you getting on with it? I am yet to receive mine...hopefully today.

I remember when Smartwater was just a few guys that came to me for some IT help.
Back then they were targetting this DNA water to motorbike owners as there was a lot of them being stolen and stripped down. All the parts had this indelible water technology put on them and could be traced back.
Seemed a great idea at the time. That was a good few years ago....

You can change the protected address when ordering so fine for ordering for others. Thanks op, ordered. Anything that reduces risk has to be worth £25

I'm interested in this, if stolen items are recovered do police take the time to send the item to a lab to fnd out who they belong to? or do they do it some other way?

Reading through the sales info - it seems that they (SmartWater) provide the analysis on behalf of the police and even provide witness testimonies in court. Over a 1000 convictions must mean they are doing something right!!

That's not what South Yorkshire police say, 74% would not try and break in to a smart water protected property. It's all about reducing risk and making your house more secure than the rest. A thief's not going to target a house with decent security, alarmed & smart water protected when easier pickings are on offer.

Crimestoppers do a similar one for £10-£15.

Thanks OP. Useful

Just to explain what actually happens. Anyone arrested for a burglary/theft/drug related offence will be put in front of large UV lamps to see if they have smart water on them.
The smart water us very difficult to remove because you can't see it and it won't wash off.

When we got broken into police told me smartwater never really lived up to the expectations, number of recovered items is low.
They advised me to register serial numbers on immobilise.com/ind…php
It's free and has a higher success rate in my county.

There is deterrent value in advertised ie stickers such products. The reality...How many burglars have actually been detected and convicted as a direct consequence of this or similar products? Very, very few.

Incorrect, you will get a bottle with glue-alike fluid and stick it to your valuables.
It leaves a visible mark (like a glue mark) and can be identified (not by police itself, gues sthat will have to happen in a lab)

Depends on how many home owners are actually using it and putting the stickers up.

The conviction number could be low as the stickers are working as a deterrent.

Absolute no brainer! I see their stickers everywhere, on BT and security vans, even our local church has one. So, if its good enough for them, and even if it stops just one burglar, well, its good enough for me!

I found loads of videos on their TV site

This one shows how Network Rail used Smartwatre to locked up some thieves: BBC News clip

Ha, UV pen lasts six months if you're lucky before it fades away and can be washed off with fairy liquid. If you check the Smart water site out, you'll see that it's guaranteed for 5 years. So that £5 per year, 10p a week for a deterrent so powerful that the police are supplying them in some areas.

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for (or not)!

oddballjamie

Clearly it won't deter the most hardened of burglars who are set on burgling your particular house (an organised burglary). But, as most crime is opportunistic, if a burglar sees this sticker on your house but not on your neighbour's, he may simply opt for the neighbour's house out of preference.
