Smarty is painfully slow compared to EE and others. So be careful.
Do '3' have anything to do with Smarty apart from using their network?

Depends where you are and what you're looking for. If you really must have 100mbps then it's unlikely to be for you. If you're in Central London, forget about a Three based sim.

But if you're looking for a cheap sim with loads of data, they're way out front. I'm on around 50-70mbps jess happy with that.

Smarty are owned directly by Three.

They have nothing to do with the day to day running, they're completely separate entities
The_Big_Rock09/12/2019 20:38

Fair point

I know lots of people who've used these 1 month smarty deals to suss out Three's performance in their area and have then taken up a 24 month contract. But there's also been a few that really struggled and ended up paying a fair chunk more and moving to EE or Voda.
Oh, and you can pause their service for up to 180 days. I have 2 sims, effectively got the first 2 months on each sim for free and I've now paused the unlimited one - I got it at £18.75 so I figured it was worth keeping on ice just in case. If I want it again, it'll stay at that price till I activate it.

That's fine by me. I've been with Smarty for a while now and have tried to reference connections with Three at times when dealing with their cs dept and every time I'm told there was no connection to be made other than using the network and who the owners were.

doesn't worry me, both my daughters are with Smarty and get good value for money from them

I second that for in and around Bristol. 10mb at best but to be honest I barely had a usable 4g signal.
Smarty are my main phone provider and I also use them for my main internet provider for my house after removing all fiber broadband.

That's what I did. Tried smarty for a month, then Voxi and ended up going with EE for a bit more £.
Good reviews, good price. Enough data for most to really make this unlimited

Please give some heat, you are a positive person.
This may be a daft question, but will this be able to be used in a mobile router? Got a Huawei E5573, and need a data sim for going to Spain next week.

How is the discount you get back calculated?
Is it £1.25 per whole gig, or would I get a preportinal discount. Say I used 500 Meg, would I get about 62p of my next bill?

Dies it work good? I’m sick of fibre broadband. Breaking down all the time but yet still getting charged.
Is it unlimited internet? If so, how much please?

Works great had it for last three months or so and no issues at all (apart from when the three network went down nationwide). I signed up for unlimited when it was 18.75 a month, but would again on £22. Getting speeds of 30mb when fiber was only maxing out at 10-13mb, and same as you fiber was so temperamental for us (don't live in best area for any 4g or fiber). Full family household - multiple tvs, iPads, Netflix. Work from home so data about 300-400gb a month. No complaints as of yet.

Thanks. Didn't know this. It's painfully slow even in the suburbs of London. I was going to cancel after getting my second month free but I'll pause it instead and hope that when I get my 5g phone it will have improved.

Yeah, I'd pause it and see how things progress. My biggest issue has been a few random short outages - apparently Three have ten doing work on some of the masts near me.

Do you know how they are applied to the basic plans? Thank you.

This is their explanation, hope it helps:
’£5 = the base cost of our data discount plans (unlimited standard calls, texts and running the network). The rest is simply for data.

At the end of each month, we take the data you haven’t used and discount your next plan - at a rate of £1.25 per GB.

So for 3GB of unused data, you’ll get £3.75 off your next month. We even calculate using remaining MBs, not GBs.’
It’s pretty good that they apply it to MBs too, not just whole GBs

Spot on. Calculated by Mb perfect.

And it’s on Three, good for me. Now to email them to see if the offer WiFi calling, as sky and three do.

Thanks for the help.

Yep, I've noticed it too. Particularly annoying when you're downloading stuff. But overall it's not the worst. I've used 200gb in under two weeks so can't be bad. just wish the speeds were faster.
@andywedge can I get a feature in your newsletter
I don't get involved with the newsletter @RealDonaldTrump
Generally though, they do feature the very best of the day and as good as this is, there's a lot 'hotter' ones out there today I'm afraid.
