Something that has been long overdue for ChromeOS.....SMB/CIFS support!

Finally you can connect you Chromebook/box to your Windows/Linux host or NAS without having to use FTP or Webdav.

Ooooooo! .. very cool! .. interesting .....
Thanx for that. :-)

Thanks will be really helpful.

Does anyone know if you can mount hidden holders from a NAS? It finds the non-hidden ones and lists them in a pop-up-box but I'm not sure how I can add an address to a hidden folder...

Thanks for sharing. More than anything else, this has been the one gotcha that has put me off Chromebooks.

Are there any instructions for this app? I looked around but couldn't see any, would imagine this is very intuitive but need some tech knowledge to begin with...sadly I'm lacking that! I have a couple of NAS boxes...Zyxel and Iomeda so am hoping can use this with my chromebook?

It's very simple to use
Enter server/NAS name (or IP address)
then user name and password and click mount.
Mounted drive will appear in the ChromeOS files app.

Doesn't work yet on all SMB shares (win2008/win2012 in particular are a but hit and miss) but this is a very early version released by the Dev and still very much work in progress

Yeah a bit crazy isn't it. People have been asking Google for it for years. There have been ways around it by using FTP/WebDav etc.. or simply installing a Linux Chroot dualboot but looks like this extension will finally help a few people out...(just needs some support for newer Win SMB versions really though)

Anyone know if this should work on a Buffalo Cloudstation? Thanks.

Should do...support for CIFS on NAS drives seems better than Windows shares at the moment.

Extension has been updated by the Dev and now also working for Windows server 2008/2012 shares

works a treat on open media vault

Lots of updates to this recently. Dev is doing a good job. now has NTLM authentication so will map to shares on a Windows domain and also now supports multiple shares on the same host. Cracking work.

Windows hidden shares are listed in the pop up when you choose a drive to mount

The hidden shares don't 'pop up' on my Netgear ReadyNAS... I'll have to investigate further.
