Fine, I’ll bite... Smart as in “won’t do its job if the internet connection drops out”? I’m thinking of “going smart” in the form of a few sockets, (for their potential usefulness rather than an obsession with ‘keeping up’”, but there’s a lot to be said for something that works, at a certain time, without depending on any external factors. Things don’t stop being useful because of a change in an arbitrary human calendar.

Absolutely agree. I still use my mechanical timer for the lounge, works a treat.
Just replaced a mechanical timer with a smart one as the noise was driving me crazy. It used to be quiet but something changed and it started making a horrible clicking noise.
