2. Am I entitled to free smoke detectors ?

The majority of households in the UK are entitled to Smoke Alarms. However, its not as simple as calling into a fire station and getting them. Firefighters and specialist teams will come to your home and fit them for you.

This all forms part of carrying out a Home Fire Risk Assessment.

Good price does it say what batteries it takes?

No but I imagine it will be a 9v.

A good deal for something that could save your life.

However as others have said. Ring the HQ for the brigade in your area, and they may well be able to organise a visit to your property either by a watch in the Fire Engine (good for the kids) or by a specialist team.

Speaking as a Fire Fighter in Shropshire, we fit around 40 free smoke alarms and carry out at least 20 home safety risk assessments every month. The ones we fit are these:

Hmm, now, would I trust my property's and families' safety to a Lidl smoke alarm, or one professionally fitted for free by the Fire Brigade.

We got our local fire brigade round and they fitted three good alarms for free. They were here about 1 hour to do the assessment and offer some advice, and then they went back to the station for a game of snooker and a kip.

The local fire brigade came round and fitted 3 smoke alarms free of charge (in the best locations). As others have said, all in all took about an hour. They were very polite and professional. Give them a call, they're doing a great job.

Wilko do smoke alarms for £3 (also including a battery)

Voted hot for ovbious reasons.

A few months ago the Fire Brigade surveyed my house, fitted two alarms and even gave me another one to fit in my mobile home. The ones they fitted have a 10yr battery life. All free.

Professionally fitted........it's only 2 screws LOL. £2.99 Lidl alarm or not, they still have to meet the required standards.

But if those two screws are in the wrong place in the house, the time differance between a fire starting and the activation of the alarm could mean the difference between a family member escaping or not.
Don't just look at the price, it's the free advice that's more important.

If you can't install a simple smoke alarm then something is seriously wrong with you.
