A similar item has been on offer in the past but that was only 60 pieces for £39.99.

Yeah but looks like there are a lot of screw driver bits in this one.

The ratchets in the other one were also made of chrome moly. Look at the ratchets and see if they have CrMo written on them....

CrMo is great... very very hard steel. That's why I bought the other set. Hopefully the ratchets in this set are CrMo too. Its much better quality and value than those sold by the likes of halfords

It says "Made from chrome vanadium " so I wonder what is the quality like

i bought the 40 quid set last time & it's excellent, good fitting case with metal clips, sockets fit vey well & they are 6 point not 12 so they dont round off old bolts. done disks & pads on several cars & this has done the job, the 72 tooth ratchet it great - as with any ratchet loosen any very highly torqued bolts before using it.

Do you think this one is good?

Hard to say, without getting my hands on it. One thing I do notice is case clips on this appear to be moulded plastic - previous deal being referred to had metal clips, and a generally stronger looking case.

Has anyone bought this yet? and can they confirm what the quality is like?
Thanks

Would someone who has purchased this one confirm if they can tell if the ratchets have CrMo written on them and if possible post a picture , thks in advance.
Any other comparisons would be great too.

I would think the sockets etc are exactly the same even if the case is different, from the picture the ratchet it's the same. Indecently the ratchet has been sold on its own before for £13

It does have cr-mo on it

The last set at Lidl was really good quality. All metric as well, so no wasted imperial sizes.

How obscene!!

Its been a very long, long time since I used imperial sized sockets but took great delight in rummaging around in my toolbox for them to service a US engined lawnmower ......some of them still have imperial sizes

All "94 Pieces Socket Spanner Set" are the same, came from one factory and are sold under many different brands. quite good quality, very hot for £34.99

I bought the more expensive set that they were selling last year, used it a lot. Its good but very annoyingly the ratchets keep jamming.

looks very similar to my britool set

might have to get this, got mine stolen other year (not same set but not got any atm)

These ones seem to be wall drive for the same price including delivery:
ebay.co.uk/itm…772
Tempted to give them a go - had the set as shown in the LIDL pics before and happy with it for the price.
Did break the 1/4" ratchet, but no doubt using excessive force.

A non-wall drive set on ebay for £33.85 all in - ebay.co.uk/itm…021 - but I do hold some stock in buying from Lidl as opposed to ebay - though only if it's convienent.

Looks like a goode deal but I had a good look at the box last time I was in Lidl and couldn't find any mention of warranty. For your average sunday mechanic, you do want a lifetime warranty as you probably won't get your money's worth of use in just two years. Also it will be big hassle if you want to replace just one broken part (it will be much easier to get a full refund which is not ideal if you do actually need the tools). With Halfords you can get a replacement part on the spot ususally but you do pay more and get useless imperial sizes in their kits.

For those reasons I won't be voting either way

I hope Lidl and Aldi offer a set of beefy/impact deep socket kit one day though.

No It doesn't.
It has CR-V on every bit including the wrenches.
Purchased on Thursday and I think the set is great.
Used the 32mm socket with a torque wrench (not in the same set) to grease the wheel bearings.
Effortless action and feels strong and professional.
I'm not sure about the screwdriver bits as I haven't used them yet, but there are some bits that are usually not included in other sets, like the PZ4 and PH4 for large screws.
Very happy with the value for money .
Hot!

I'd say for your £35, you're still getting good value. To get a similarly comprehensive socket set from Halfords (which are a bit better, to be fair), you'd be paying 3x as much, if not more.
So, you could always just buy a spare set as your 'warranty' and still be quids-in :).
Or just replace individual tools as needed.

just picked up the set and it looks very well made

Does anyone have a list of the contents?

I got this set of ebay, really recommend it!!!!! I often do work on my car and pretty much everything you could need

Hmm, should I take the halfords one back and get this one?? Looks good

Depends which Halfords one and how much you paid.
If it's a 'Pro' one, then this won't be as good quality.
Whatever, you will get more stuff for your money with this one (while people argue for getting good quality stuff that will last, it's not so good when you've only got good quality tools in the wrong size!)

Sorry but even the pro halfords stuff isn't CrMo. So it turns out this actually better
Edited by: "alexfn" 18th Mar 2013

I'm not a big fan of the Halfords stuff, but I'd consider that the Pro stuff is overall better quality than these.

Hmm, I have both the £100 Halfords pro set and the last set from Lidl.

The Halfords set feels and looks nicer. The ratchet in the Lidl set is finer toothed. I don't like plastic handles on ratchets either, so that is a strike against the Lidl stuff. The Lidl set is 6 point instead of 12, each have their ups and downs. The Halfords set is missing 16mm (used on Jap cars) and has all the Imperials I don't use. The Lidl set is much cheaper. The Lidl set doesn't have ratchet spanners, which I love. The Halfords guarantee - I don't know the ins and outs of it - but they have always replaced pieces immediately, even ratchets.

I like the handy size of th aldi set, & I have a Toyota so I need that 16. I can't see one of these sockets breaking, 6 point are actually more solid than 12, would only be a couple of quid to replace one anyway. All this makes me happy with my decision not to spend 3 times more on a halfords set.
