'Soft and Fresh' Dry Oil Body Spray

Not quite sure how to post this - it's a tip and a deal.
I was recommended this product a few years ago by a U.S soldier (!) as a mosquito repellent. It contains an aroma which the little blighters do not like, and using this product also has the benefit of moisturizing (and i am not aware of any safety exclusion for young children - wouldn't recommend it for babies though)
If you buy it from the current Avon catalogue (02/07), it is selling at 1/2 price for 2.50 for 150ml pump spray. However online it is 5.00 but somes with a free Footworks pedi-brasion scrub.
Apparently it is ONLY the scent of the Soft and FRESH product that is effective. Our family used to get bitten to death previously, but sprayed on the body at any time of the day or night has greatly reduced hours of scratching and misery.

Is this tip helpful enough to tip the scales?

Thanks for the pointers all

Is that in HotUKDeals voucher section cindy?

I heard the rumour about the mosquito repellant too, years ago. I have used it as an aftersun, but I can't really confirm whether or not it works. I like the product & the fragrance anyway so it's worth a try.

Scoutfinch

I've used it before and it works!!! I live in Scotland (aka midgy heaven) and use it when I go to highlands as they seem to adore my blood
Thanks op

I read about this stuff 6 months ago and bought half a dozen. I can tell you all that this stuff works a treat against those damn mossies. I am back 3 weeks ago from getting married in Cuba and used this stuff everyday i was there. After 2 weeks not 1 bite. Great for mossies and also a great as a moisturizer.

Voted Hot.

Can somebody tell me if this product contains DEET which is used in most insect replents?

Thanks

Just looked at the back of the bottle and all it says "isopropyl palmitate, alcohol denat, aqua, parfum" - hope this helps.

Avon also sell mosquito repellant which IMHO is not as good as Soft and Fresh.

As this is not sold as a repellant there will be no DEET in it.

Yep, it does work and its a favourite of soldiers all over the world. I live in the Highlands so I have several bottles at home one in the Land Rover and buy it whenever there is a promotion.

You may smell a bit 'girly' but you never git bitten and end up with lovely soft skin!

(Interesting to see it in a blue bottle - they used to be pink)

I'll second what others have said. This stuff really works. It doesn't stop them swarming you or even landing on you but it stops them biting you. I hate midges!!!

Plus the bonus is that it's not actually a repellent, it's a moisturiser.

Buy some if you're going to anywhere north of Glasgow or Edinburgh this summer.

i was told this about Avon's skin so soft years ago when i used to work as a riding instructor in the states. think it is probably a more natural alternative to those containing Deet etc. it's got to be worth a go!

It really works.Used it last in India and had no bites at all.It is DEETfree. Can ensure you because I was 6 months pregnant and not allowed to use anything containing DEET.Worked very well for us.

im going to mexico in june so will get some of this, thanks for the tips guys

Hey, well done you for letting us all in on the littte secret. Shall get some for the summer for in the garden as I always get bitten, even at home.

Did this previously come in a pink bottle? My friend thought that she had used it for the insect repellent before but was the pink bottle?

Mmm interesting... Timus made post #12 and commented that he thought it was previously in a pink bottle. The guy who told me about it said it was definately Woodland Fresh ( now soft and Fresh) which had the 'magic' ingredient. Not sure about the current pink bottle though....maybe there is an Avon rep. who can shed some light on this one:thinking:

It may work for you but dont rely on it, look at this by Florida University

Thanks for your post Sanjay...interesting article. When all is said and done though...the product is a marketed and sold as a moisturiser, any other benefits are a bonus. When travelling to high risk malaria areas, visitors would have had jabs anyway;:-( i think this product deters mozzies rather than repels them, and if your are susceptable and don't want to use the more successful (but dubious) DEET products or some of the other more putrid potions, this could be worth a try. Nonethelesss, an interesting report - thanks:thumbsup:

cindy

Is that in HotUKDeals voucher section cindy?

yes it is

My hubby is into fishing and he was absolutely amazed to see midges around but have NO BITS! So, from semi-personal experience I can add to the comments above "Yes, it works!"

Hi... I'm an AVON rep just letting you all know that the soft and fresh has always been in a dark green bottle and its the soft and sensual that is in a pink bottle.

On the reps website there is a FAQ section and here is what is said....

I have heard you can use Skin So Soft (SSS) as an insect repellent. Is it true? We have had reports from Representatives and their customers that Avon Skin So Soft Soft & Fresh (originally Woodland Fresh) fragrance Bath Oil and Dry Body Spray acts as an effective insect repellent. Our Quality Control Department advise that it is the aroma of the product that has this effect. Citronella is in the perfume and as fragrance oils are 'propriety compositions' and the property of the vendor, due to vendor confidentiality, we list this ingredient as Parfum. However this product is marketed and sold by us as a bath preparation only. We would not recommend any Skin So Soft product for any other use. Skin So Soft products in any other fragrance do not contain the same ingredients as Soft & Fresh.

hope this helps

thanks for this, havent used as repellent, but will have a go, as they tend to love me! ( only one in family who they attack ) but have used it as moisturiser, more so when abroad , when skin is very dry, and its not all slimy like some.

 voted hot

Now 'buy one get one free' on the Avon website - £5 for two 150ml bottles and SOOTHE code still working for free delivery

Hmmmm any deals on this now. Used it on our last visit to Thailand for our son who i would not have used DEEt on and he was not bitten once. As we are heading off again i could do with grabbing a few bottles.

We went to Kenya Hubby is renound for getting bit he insisted I bought him mozzie reppelent thought avon too girly he soon changed his mind after getten bitten to hell has for me and the girls who had used avon had not one bite 3 days into our hol he started using the avon and was left alone by the mozzies he swears by it now come summer and the midges he is straight for the avon

This stuff is great and does work as a replliant. I use to get bitten badly espcially when we went camping but i use this now and its brilliant. Cheap and no nasty chemicals in it.

In the American Avon they do actually sell it a repliant but dont over here for some reason. :?

lol, im glad im not the only one who appreciates it. I have just stocked up on it and several other things. Considering DEET is about £8 a bottle the deals on this stuff make it a bargain and also child friendly. Before you ask im not a rep for them.

can get it at 2.25quid for a bottle using the code BIRTHDAY giving you free standard delivery and discount.

wow, i am a rep and have been for 10years and didn't know this. I did know about it supposingly stopping mosquitoes but didn't work for us one year in alcudia when there was a sudden swarm. We got bitten to bits even using it. I had never previously had a mossie bite before. May work for some though:) I read on a mosquito site that it only works for around 20mins anyway and then you have to reapply.
