Wow, am I being thick or is that a lotta money to spend on a lightbulb? Don't you also have to supply a battery for this ...?

Well I can't find many details as the site is pretty vague, but normally with these kits the idea is the solar cell powers the unit, by storing the charge during the day, and there's a backup battery used for darker days. However you have to remember where you are (i.e. probably not Mauritius or somewhere similar) and hence your more likely to be using the battery than the solar panel. Really they are just praying on the gullable who are going to be guilted into buying them by the press at the moment.

so its not like the solar-powered torches Arthur Daley/Delboy used to sell

I bought an item much the same as this from Netto a few weeks ago for £12.99.

That's a good price dinosteveus - I was going to say that I was looking at a similar product in B&Q today that cost £14.99 but the Netto deal sounds better if they have any left.

Either way, both are significantly cheaper than the offering above and so I can only vote it as cold.

This is actually £56.69 with the VAT, but the cheapest I could find it on Google and Froogle was £79.99, so I suppose it does constitute a bargain. Warming you up a bit Stephen :o)
