HOT for what it will start to promote - even though most of the stuff just rotates through the discount price

I don't see how these solar panels are either green or save electricity for the majority of people. The devices on sale tend to be used for the convenience of charging up batteries when away from a mains point. They take energy to produce, ship and if they end up in a cupboard (as a fair number will) they'll never repay that debt in generating solar power. The PDA charger looked quite useful until I realised I'd repeatedly have to leave it somewhere sunny to charge it up, and therefore increase the chances of losing it when I forget to take it with me.
I can imagine they might be somewhat useful to caravan owners, but that's about it. Has anyone bought anything like this say a year ago and still finding it useful? I know people will swear by them for a month or so but if it's green we're after then it's got to be useful all the time.

Thats the problem with most so called 'green' products in that if you take the whole process of their manufacture/packaging/shipping etc into account then they turn out to be anything but green.

Since this is a repeat post,

HOW COME IT'S HOT???:whistling:

Surely the original one should be, shouldn't it?

Are these any good? - maplin.co.uk/Mod…;T=[[ID]]

I car share, so one week I'll drive, the next a workmate will drive, and my car often stands for the whole week, always scared it won't start, not good at 5am!

you found yourself a bargain there, £17 off is definitely worth it, these are great to just plug in to the car cigarette socket, saves fuel too. not massively but it does!

soon warm you up push starting it

"During peak hours of sunshine, a mobile phone can be charged in an hour". Wow! Don't kid youselves these will save the planet. They mostly take more energy to produce that they're ever going to generate (which is why they cost more than you'll ever save). The 'green' argument is bogus. The real life political driver behind 'green' energy is energy self sufficiency. Laudible - think where we currently buy our energy from - but not as cuddly as 'green'.

Voted hot and how does it save fuel, do you leave it in while driving?

What you say is predominately factual. However the PDA chargers work extremely well if you are on holiday somewhere sunny (Spain France etc) - or alternately camping with no other options other than extenders or more batteries.

But the solar chargers are also good for cars with lightweight batteries (like Lotus, etc) or to keep a charge in a normal car you wont use for a while.

Lastly - solar power for your home is not currently really viable - but in the near future it will be - and the presence of panels now (which will have a slight benefit) will be there to encourage the curiosity of people as the products improve with time.

Come on then, I've always been interested in these solar thingies. Forget the conspiracy theories and the, they cost more to prodcue etc. Would something like the trickle thingy stated above ever save you money, cos thats all I'm interested in. Better for the environment is just an added bonus.

Also interested in the phone charger. What say you all?

True on the green issue, but my panel's paid for itself already on the money I have saved pitching my caravan on a non-electric pitch as opposed to an electric pitch.
