Ditto....had forgotten all about the series until I happened to come across it when having a browse and also thought to myself they don't make them like that any more...not sure if that's a good or bad thing...lol...admittedly I think it is also a type of humour that seems to appeal to kids of a certain age

I don't think this really stands the test of time - humour here looks a bit pathetic & feeble (ooh Betty)

just watch them free on the Tube

er, good thing - not as if they have any bracing humour in either, such as you get in Steptoe & Son or Rising Damp

just a series of weak dribbles that could also be a sign of onset of senile incontinence

Strongly disagree.
Wasn't even alive when this was on originally and can say it was some of the funniest stuff around as a young kid and now exactly the same.
It does give you a headache if you watch more than a couple of episodes in succession because it is so ridiculous but then that would be the case for anything that goes for that type of humour.

Of no help to anyone, but I got this for a quid last summer in homebase. Still not opened it....

well if you had to rank this series against the ones I have mentioned and maybe include 2 more to make 5 - It Ain't Half Hot Mum & Are You Being Served? - where in the 5 do you place this dribbler?

It's funnier that way.

Not really something I want to compare.
It's just unique in that it gets away without being forced but is about as silly as anyone can imagine.

I think the point is that humour is a very personal thing and what one person finds hilarious another doesn't...for example I love It Ain't Half Hot Mum, in fact it is one of my all time favourite comedies but that may be partly due to the "nostalgia" influence and memories of watching it with my Grandad when I was little. Nevertheless I still find it funny to this day but on the other hand although it is a classic I cant stand Steptoe and Son so wouldn't rate it at all in my top 5 comedies but I would rate something like In Sickness and In Health instead. Hence as I say humour is a very personal thing

As I said in another comment though Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em tends to appeal to kids of a certain age who find it absolutely hilarious and at least it is a kind of family friendly comedy compared to many others that are about.

Some mothers is funnier and much more clever than any of the others you mentioned, not even in the same league for me.

When i originally watched this , it was for the childish humour, but having rewatched this recently they're very layered and much cleverer than they're credited for.

As above, comedy is very subjective. I cannot stand are you being served, it evolves mostly around 1 or 2 jokes, i'm sure others love it. As for Liver birds..................meeeeeeeeh, awful

LOVE IT!!!!!!

Awful programme , but Alf Garnett pure class!
Go away PC fools.

If only this was availble on Betamax I would have jumped at the deal

Such brilliant gentle humour. Doesn’t hurt anybody. Yeah it’s silly but it’s harmless and easy watching. The guy is awesome and when he went from this to playing the phantom of the opera he showed how diverse an entertainer he is. Outstanding guy in interview too.

I adore this series

I like Alf Garnett, but at least this doesn't require casual racism to provide laughs.

You mentioned that you weren't a fan of Only Fools and Horses too on another thread...
Do you even own a TV? Or are you one of these people who reckon Mrs Brown's Boys is gold?

nope, all those have passed me by, along with Coronation St - I think they are dumbed-down progs for dumbed-down people

Hmmm ! It would be interesting to know what comedy programmes you do like then. I somehow doubt there are many but perhaps 'Keeping Up Appearances' might be one ? Unfortunately, your statement just makes you sound like someone who believes their taste in programmes is superior to that of other people ie. a TV snob.

HIGNFY
Paul Merton
selected stand-up
Josh
fat guy singing in the car with stars
the one with the guys using metal detectors for treasure - Detectorists?
I absolutely loved that recent one where nearly everybody got killed - black humour, Scotland, hunting etc

So Josh isn't dumbed down then?

Also, HIGNFY and Paul Merton is satire, not comedy?

Carpool Karaoke isn't really comedy either

Perhaps the question was too demanding, shall we dumb it down for you?

By the way this supercilious charade you're posing is failing badly.

For a seventies sitcom there's absolutely no racism or sexism, or even ladies running around in their knickers. Ah well ;-)

Nah, great funny show.

Hot. Xmas present sorted!

James Corden

He also does The Late Late Show in the USA and the episode of Carpool Karaoke with Michelle Obama is a classic

Dads Army and Allo Alllo stand the test of time as classic comedy greats that are still watchable .

Some Mother do ave them, is a classic comedy great, But it grates to watch them now and they are not funny.

Especially for the PC brigade, I think they should bring out a box set for " love thy neighbor. ".
