I know the plus version is out in July, and Sega said that there's an upgrade on day of release at around £3.99 for the upgrade!! So mania Plus for £12.21

I use an Aqua Reward Credit Card on my Nintendo account. I get charged no foreign fees (in fact I get 0.5% cashback).

There are other companies that are fee free on foreign purchases. PayPal will charge you a conversion fee.

Other companies may charge you a fee, most cards charge 3% but it's been mentioned some companies charge high flat fees

If you're with a bank/card company that charges you £3 on an £8.20 transaction it may be worth looking at other fees they may be charging you as that's taking the......But that's for another thread

The game actually cost me £7.83 using my 30 (russian gold points)

Someone asked for instructions on how to ‘move’ your county within the Nintendo Europe area so......

Log on to your Nintendo account (accounts.nintendo.com/)

change your country to Russia on a computer/iPad browser (not switch)

save

login to the store on switch. You’ll be prompted for your password when you’ve moved.

It’s in Russian but layout is identical. Use the search. Type sonic. Buy game, I use same fee free card for all transactions and it’s the only one on my account.

Buy, download.

Job done!!

Leave country alone until you’re looking to buy another game. Most of the time I live in Norway. When another deal comes up on another Nintendo Europe site repeat above but choosing the relevant shop that has the offer.

This only works on Nintendo Europe sites. There are ways and means of getting games cheaper from Mexico/US etc but it involves pre-paid gift cards etc and it’s not enticed me yet and I prefer having just one Nintendo account but plenty of other hukd members do that too.

You will earn gold points but weirdly you earn them in the different countries so Norwegian points can only be spent in Norway. If you move countries and have gift card credits you will lose them. I see no need or reason to have them when you can save so much so quickly. You’ll not lose your gold points. I had 30 to redeem today and haven’t been to Russia for ages

The update has been confirmed at £3.99 I believe - for Digital owners - so content matches the physical- I think it’s only extra playable characters though?? Not sure. I’ll get it at 3.99 though.
I bought mania before I started changing eshops I feel like I have been robbed
what does sonic mania plus have that this doesn't?

Ditto...but also before they announced physical - I may have been tempted to hold off for that even if it is more expensive!
I own it digitally on switch, but i'm prepared to fork out £25 for a physical version.
This game deserves every penny.
The Russian eshop allows UK PayPal?
So around £2 on the Russian eshop then

it's currently imo the best sonic game.
"Encorde Mode" sounds great. it would be awesome to have that 10levels mode from super mario run in a sonic game.
So I can just change the region and pay with my UK paypal account? No gift card nonsense?
Edited by: "Talib" 8th May
I felt abit emotional when playing this lol. I just have deep nostalgia because the mega drive was my first console. Also, the soundtrack is on point.

yes. I did it recently with a Jotun deal. language display in the store is different, but the options are all the same. Payment went through fine for me using my attached paypal account.

True. But the US eshop doesn't allow me to use my PayPal.

Actually that is not the whole picture. Try using your [UK created] PayPal to buy from any of The Americas' eshops or the Japanese eshop

How do I switch to Russia store?

Ok I read I need to create a new account, so I need to give them a new email address? Will I have to log in as this user each time if I want to play sonic?
Edited by: "Ebenezer_Splooge" 8th May
I've read that this can be a bit punishing in terms of 'if you die at a boss you have to go back to the start of the zone, which can be 2 levels'. Does anybody know is this the case? Or have they maybe patched it to be a bit more forgiving...
thanks!

This is the the single reason I didnt buy day one. I am old enough to remember the originals but didnt fancy the punishing difficulty this game supposedly has according to some reviews/comments. I have less time to play as an adult so I kinda want the pick up n play stuff of Odyssey etc. Here is hoping they introduce a Funky Kong mode

you don't have to create a new account. you just have to log into your mynintendo account online and change the region (I don't have the link handy but did it before and it's handy enough). Then when you try access the store on your switch, it tells you that you need to log back in. Once you do that, the russian store will appear. It's one of the few ones that lets you use your UK papal to purchase games without issue.

yes. There was a Jotun deal recently that I went on, changed region and bought from russian store, then once it was starting to download, reversed the process and went back in and set up UK store again.

There are plenty of previous deals on here for other switch eshop region games you can read through. And plenty of other sites telling how it all works.
Thank you for the post and all the people helping to advise how to get the deal, nice saving!
Just bought this, I was surprised how easy it was to switch region and pay using PayPal will be doing it again

No. You can try creating a mexican paypal and give that a go
I figured it out and bought. Just checked my bank balance and I’m pretty sure I’ve been charged over £11
Is this worth it?
Ok with a little help from google translate I managed to buy it. Word of advice before changing your language to Russian link your paypal first. I then used google translate to ensure I knew what I was agreeing to. It all went through fine checked my paypal and £8.57 GBP = 699.00 RUB. So a few pence more than OP quoted but exchange rates can move a little in 8 hours. Thanks OP.
Keeps coming up as 699 RUB for me and then click to buy and it changed to £15.99
Step by step would be really helpful anyone?

Yes!

Saving almost 50% on something that you’re buying from the same company (Nintendo Europe) by changing your region in less than 15 seconds?? It’s why most of us are here are here, I’ve saved £100+ on the Nintendo store since I found out how to check on the eshop website before ordering. Ordering takes the same amount of time as the UK store and all Nintendo eshop sakes for Norway, South Africa, Russia and Uk are from Nintendo Europe. Those sites (obviously not the UK) are cheaper 99% of the time compared to the UK store. You still earn gold points that you can redeem (but only from the country of purchase). I had 30 (rubles?) To redeem today 🏻
