This is a saving, not sure why it's a negative. Albeit, overly expensive product if you want multi zones but that's a different case all together.
I'm confused with what it does ? It's nearly the same price as a playbar, am I right in thinking this just allows you to connect your existing speakers to a Sonos network ?

Pretty much. Supports ARC too.

So once you have this is it easier to connect other speakers around the home to a Sonos network or is it just for the one main speaker ?
Shouldn't heat (or cold) be given for the relevance of the deal, rather than one's opinion of the product?

I give some heat, coz it's a 10% is not a bad deal for anyone interested in this product: the Amp can make sense if you already have an existing set of good (or wired-in) speakers and want to use them as part of a sonos system...

Basically yes, there is an older version to this amp which is cheaper, but isn't as powerful. You can get say a full receiver and connect speakers to it, have multiple zones and be far cheaper, but like with anything, you have multiple options.

For instance, I have a living room with a playbar and will be two play ones.

I have another living room/kitchen, which will have the following, Sonos Beam, two play ones and a Sonos Sub.

This room also will have 8 x ceiling speakers (don't know which ones) if I want this hooked up to my existing sonos setup, I would need either 2 x Sonos Amps (to carry out the Sonos functionality) or an Amp that "works with Sonos".

Nevertheless as you can see, I like Sonos stuff. Yes it is expensive, but there is a thing called Wife Friendliness and with less cables, makes things a bit easier (excluding ceiling speakers)

Hope the above makes sense and I have not waffled on too much, I am not a pro, by any shape but I can try and guide if you need.
