So they now support HD audio?

DTS . No one said anything about HD audio. Your on about analogue. Which it doesn't even have the ports for. Anyway. It's not for you. I enjoy mine.

Nothing special really. Just default settings. Are your rear speakers facing straight or angled slightly towards you?
sonofgojira08/07/2019 19:54

So are trolls.

Not really, just cost vs functionality, for home cinema is a woeful choice.
Is this the latest gen or the older one, and what is the main difference between the 2 models

Make sure you have the volume for the surrounds loud enough so that you can actually hear them (and if you have an i device, use trueplay)

Also keen on knowing this. And if they have the white version?

Sorry but sonos doesn't support DTS, only dolby digital.

Make sure what ever device you are using, ps4 xbox, sky etc is set to dolby digital. Otherwise you'll only get stereo sound as the sonos only supports stereo or dolby 5.1. You'll also want to make sure your tv is set to dolby or "auto" and not PCM.

Trueplay made a massive difference for me to the overall sound (playbar, sub and play ones).

It will work but your TV or the sonos will be converting it to stereo - you should set audio to only output in dolby digital 5.1.

You can check in the app under "about my sonos system" what format is being played.

As Halfang said, I connected my surrounds and the volume was low. After adjusting the surrounds to max volume through the app the sound was amazing.

Sonos still have refurbs for £119, thats £238 for a pair and they look brand new, I've just got one!

Thanks for the info. All my HDMI ports are set to auto. Changing it to PCM I can tell the big difference.

Checked virgin and it's set to Dolby
Ps4 is set to linear PCM. Bitstream Dolby is the other setting assume I need that?

What's trueplay?

The Compact Disc standard is from the early 1980s, what's your point?

There are 2 slidders one for tv and one for music. Also what about ambience and full?

Yes you want to select bitstream Dolby. If you select PCM you are only getting stereo.

Trueplay is available on the iPhone/iPad app that adjusts the sound to match your room - it basically emits sound from all your speakers and you walk around with your phone whilst it listens... you'll find it under room settings in the sonos app

No idea why it's not available on the android app though...

The reason Trueplay is available for Apple is because they have a small number of mics and processors that they can code to work with. There's so many android variants that they haven't coded for these, even solely for Samsung or OnePlus (for example) because they make a single android app and can't then allow certain features only for certain users.
How do these compare to the Sonos One (Gen 2)? Obviouasly cheaper but aside from that?

There's nothing defunct about CDs. Streaming formats are more convenient, but in terms of stereo sound reproduction CDs are still the gold standard everything is compared to.
I have a beam and two ones, i’d like to get a couple of these at some point to switch with my ones considering they are the same speaker. That way I can use the smart functions on the ones in other rooms which are deactivated when using them with the beam.

Tidal HiFi or Deezer HiFi have the same bitrates. Also Joe Public use £15 Bluetooth speakers to play YouTube music videos or stereos to play some lovely 64kbps DAB. FLAC is just the lass who presents Love Island.

Stupid question, can you set these up to play on PS4, i've always been told its a no? I've got some play:5 that would be ideal for my PS4

Not without a beam or playbar.
Overpriced speakers for what they are cant play anything else than radio on mine if you don't have a Spotify or any other garbage subscription pretty limiting. Yes for TV it is not too bad.

Can you use these for TV without anything else? They don’t seem to have an aux in or any other way to get a TV input to them.
