I have been looking for one of these for a while and I believe this is the cheapest I have seen it brand new. Next cheapest I have seen recently is £435.

Also, coming from Amazon you get great service.

Despite having them through entire house and spending literally multi 1000s I’ll never buy any kit from them again
How long will these last before they are declared software un-upgraable....

I'm staying well away from anything Sonos. Basically if you buy their stuff it is only a matter of time beware you can no longer use it. This is a fact.

Probably longer than many devices.
Yes just like my Garmin sat nav updates for life ....or not ..as they decided the hardware cant handle it ....these manufacturers lure you in then move the goalposts.....

I know, I had just bought a second Play 5 Gen 1 when that was announced. Fortunately I was able to take it back and get my money back, hence the search for a Gen 2.

Whilst they have their issues, the Sonos speakers do give a great sound.
Brilliant speaker at near cheapest ever prices
Grab this while you can, you won’t regret it

Amazing price really tempted but just can’t seem to buy it just yet
Had my last one for 10 years so time for upgrade and they are offering pay by instalments £80 a month.Done.
Spent thousands on their kit, was going to get some more but tbh their announcement has p*d me off that much in just not going to bother.
Great speaker this, shame about the CEO and company direction they have chosen.
Just checked dixons travel, its priced at £430 there now so using their double the difference promo it comes down do £370. Was tempted to get it but I was hoping it would be priced a bit more in dixons

True. But that also goes for every product that exists or will ever exist.

The gen 1 sonos 5 came out in 2009 and still works.

Like many people I have been a Sonos customer from the early days and purchased numerous devices as well as recommending to numerous friends and colleagues.

I have to say that I cannot recommend these products anymore given the lack of support and loyalty shown to customers who have spent a small fortune on what are now standard (they used to be class leading) I like others will not buy a Sonos product ever again.
People moaning about never buying Sonos again, I’m not using my iPhone 4 because Apple stopped doing updates, consumers want more from their products but don’t want to buy new technology to enable this.

Yep, Sonos was out on their own a few years ago, but now there are plenty of other comparable options. That said, I’m waiting for a very cheap Play 1 to create another stereo pair! Not sure I would start from scratch with Sonos now.

I dont really care if they no longer update the sonos devices I own, as long as I can still play spotify...I dont use it for anything else and never will.

It's worked this long so if they suddenly say you need to be on the latest version to play spotify that would be a disgrace...

A speaker is different to a smartphone. Speakers should last for decades, millions of people don't want alexa integration for example. I have no idea what other "features" they would want to be adding that the hardware currently restricts.
The only changes relevant to me would be Spotify integration changes, but what will Spotify change?
It's money grabbing plain and simple.

They could have developed a new "bridge" device that would offload the processing for the older speakers, but they want the money from full unit sales.
Another user from near the initial release of Sonos who isn’t going to buy any more of their stuff here. They remote bricked my Sonos remote as it was no longer capable of scrolling through music as it has for 8 years. Now the rest of my system bar one device are on a wait and see timebomb. Fair enough to limit new features eventually (such as no Airplay), but the idea that the hardware can no longer handle it is BS to justify forcing us to upgrade.
Ditched my Sonos system in December for google home, taking advantage of the recent Google price drops.

Swapped out a Play 5 for a Google Home Max in my kitchen and the sound is just as good. For my room I actually prefer the Google, it's a more comfortable listen whereas the Sonos was always a bit overpowering.

What a great speaker, still have mine too :-)
No idea why you'd consider dropping 400 on this with the 150 Google home max deal today.

Sonos make great devices, built to last and the price reflects that. Even putting the stupid debacle about updates aside, this is looking a bit like a dinosaur

Shame as I love my soundbar and play 1s.

I don’t want more from an audio product unless the quality improves. My 50 year old record player is still working as the day it was made, my 30 year old tape deck is still working as intended. My 10 year old network attached Marantz receiver can still play files from my NAS. But my 5 year old Sonos speakers will stop playing sound from any of them soon, not because of technology, but because of Sonos trying to force upgrades to kit I don’t need. If you really want their kit, wait, the prices will keep going down and down.
Never. Again.
Sonos are dead to me.
I have the play 5 gen 1 and I think even with their crappy trade in scheme this would only be 50 quid more expensive. Sonos customer service appalling
Does every sonos deal have to turn in to a group therapy session?

Google are notorious for dropping products and ending support, will have the same issue eventually with their Home products. I have plenty of Google Home and Sonos products but unfortunately they are probably on borrowed time.
At least the Google ones are cheaper at the moment I suppose

Unfortunately, that's is exactly the situation you're in. You won't lose Spotify overnight when the updates stop in May, but once Spotify (or any connected service) changes something vital, either a large obvious change or something small behind the scenes and not noticeable, you don't get an update to compensate and your speakers won't work any more.

I feel exactly the same. The new features I've got over the years have been fantastic, but I just want my speakers to continue to work as they do now. No one can tell me that they'll ever be too old to play music and they have to be remotely bricked.

It wasn't really a retraction. He promised bug fixes and security updates only. There will be no useful updates to actually keep the speakers operational, let alone new features.
Hi I have lots of Sonos round my home, but starting to look elsewhere as have lost faith in the brand now.there more interested in selling new products than looking after there long term customer! They been taken over by the green eyed monster 💲💲💲💲💲💲💲

This isn’t correct. They will definitely be operational, but they won’t receive new features. The speakers won’t suddenly be remotely disabled

Not suddenly, no. But eventually. I use Google Play Music which is going to be deprecated and replaced by YouTube Music. If Sonos aren't going to roll with these changes, I'm not optimistic that YouTube Music will work on Sonos at that point. This will be happening soon rather than later.

This example is just a guess, but it's a real concern. And that's just one change on one service. The truth is, any service could break at any point after updates stop in May.

It's a clever ploy by Sonos really, it creates the illusion that the speakers are slowly breaking over time and that the cause is the third party services. But it's not, it's one clear cut decision by Sonos not to keep my fully functional, perfect condition, £1200+ worth of 5 year old speakers working.

Yes. But not for me thanks. I have money set aside from something I've sold. Rather not go down that route.
Decided to wait for a bit anyway. Imminent foo fighters announvenebt and Glastonbury paydate incoming.
