Can this be used on own or do I need more sonos bits to make it work like a bridge or hub thing or something I don't have anything sonos yet but would like to get one but not really sure what's the best place to start with buying some there is a sonos 3 for less money but what is better

Use it on its own. I have this 5 and a 3 and the 5 has a lot more bass and sound quality. Saying that the 3 is also great. If you just want to make a start with Sonos then just get the Play:1, again quality sound. Always add to them later on.

overrated and overpriced

I hsve one, YES over priced

Phillips have similar but Spotify only, great sound at around £40

I rigged up an old set of Logitech X210 speakers and a Chromecast audio. Sounds superb. Total cost about £35. Google will store all your music free of charge in the cloud and you can use Spotify, Plex, TuneIn or any other software that supports Chromecast.

£388.40 for this functionality is nuts.

I have a 3 and compared to my very modest AV system the Sonos is nothing special, doesn't even have Airplay ability.

overrated and overpriced

I'm happy with mine , and there hasn't been much competition until recently , probably could be cheaper but it's like apple stuff - it works well and it easy to use ( and yes it's pricey

It's looks nicer than your rig though ;-)

It bloody well should for ten times the price. On a serious note, my issues with this are obsolescence and support. Buy a smart TV for a lot of money and chances are the processor and interface are out of date and unsupported in a couple of years even if you're still happy with the picture. The solution is to buy a better dumb TV and have a smart box you can change. The same is true of audio. Decent receiver/amp and/or speakers and smart box like chromecast is a much better and cheaper solution. It is worth saying that Chromecast audio can provide optical output with a £5 mini TOSlink cable and supports 24bit/96kHz lossless, multiroom and 5GHz wireless. I paid £15 for mine and it is tiny.

It usually retails at £429, plus the 5 year warranty, so it is a good price. It is also a Great sounding speaker, gets better every time you use it. Plus Sonos don't keep bringing out 2nd and 3rd generations every couple of years.

Bluesound are a lot more expensive, albeit more connections.

Still this price in Oxford branch but only in black, not online in shop only
