Pre-increase prices? Precursor to a new model release...?

Not sure , but the black version is still priced at £249.00
I believe the 3 is the oldest model in the range, so fair to assume this is due for a replacement.
Although I do have a Play 3 in the bedroom I wouldn’t advise buying a WiFi only speaker without Bluetooth, Airplay or a line in socket
A Libratone Zipp costs less and sounds better in my opinion. Supports AirPlay, Bluetooth, USB and 3.5mm input. As a bonus it can operate from the built in battery for 10 hours!
Thanks op! Heat!
Purchased the Sonos One last weekend from Richersounds, this is my next buy and considering any discounts on these are RARE then I’m soooo tempted to buy it!
That said, as above this is due an upgrade so wondering now if a new play 3 is due?
Decisions decisions..... guarantee I’ll make the wrong one
I have been hesitant for a long time, I am gonna take a bite one of these days. I want a speaker to blurt out Alexa reminders and notifications when events happen
Worth looking into the list of Sonos devices that will get the Airplay2 upgrade?...

I think that depends on your personal requirements. I have 2 play 1’s in the bedroom and have no need for any other networking features. They are awesome speakers, especially as a stereo pair. In fact, I sold a 1st gen play 5 that was replaced by a stereo play 1 set up (after a lot of testing). The newer Sonos speakers will support AirPlay 2 soon though. I would agree that a line in would be great for a lot of people, shame it’s only in the Play 5.

Personal requirements can change especially in the event of an internet outage so its a good idea to be precautionary and cover all bases. Sonically I think they're only average and experts will agree on that.

Though experts/audiophiles have a better preference with speakers, network, or when the internet goes down, however Sonos speakers are incredible easy to use and highly accessible.

There's a slight set up to connect to network and add music services, after that however, it just works.
Anyone on the network can adjust playlists, specify which room, etc.

I’m pretty average too according to my wife, so that’s probably why I like them...
Don’t think the internet going down would stop you. I think they only need a WiFi network. Internet is only used to stream the service. So playing from your device as the source would still work
