If they’re especially brilliant in pairs I would have expected you to have an even number of them

Almost assumed it was a Playstation 5 variant lol
Was this price 3 years ago when I bought mine. Should’ve been lower than this by now

Agreed - however this is the cheapest with a 2 year warranty I think you will find right now - still a stunning speaker for the money

Aren't these limited by the lack of support from the new app?

I could be wrong..

Edit: I have been corrected - this device is supported by the new app. Thanks @Minstadave

Until Sonos EOL them and you have to split them off into a seperate system.

Perhaps even better in 7's

1st gen is still supported, has its own ' S1 Controller' app.

I think he's aware, that's why he referred to the "new app".

The first Gen Play:5s have to be controlled by the legacy S1 app, partitioned off onto their own network and essentially mothballed from here on out. It kind of goes against the seamless multiroom experience to have speakers on two networks that can't be integreated.

Good price - voted hot.

i personally would go for two Sonos Ones paired together versus a single Sonos Play:5 - gives a more immersive sound.

In that case they should have bought 14 - best of both worlds!!
What exactly does reconditioned mean? They don't seem to say on their website?

Ahhh is that why my Sonos Play:1s (first gens) aren't properly interacting with new the new Sonos app? It picks them up and plays through them but no functionality through the home or lock screen
Depends.
Have you updated their software?
If so yes you need the new app.

Play 1s are supported in the new Sonos app. The Sonos 5 gen 1 is not (which is what the quote you are replying to is talking about when it says gen 1). There are other reasons why lock screen controls won’t work. support.sonos.com/s/article/3381?language=en_US

I suppose the other thing to say here is that even if in the future the speaker was working fine, but Sonos decided to not support them anymore, it should still work with the line in port. I don't own a Play:5 (I have multiple Play Ones), but that's how I'd assume it would work.
£305.15 if you have Unidays 15% off
Wait, is refurb and only 10% off?! Ha, this is like buying 2nd hand at just under full price. Doesn’t look like a deal to me.

Full price is £499 - available discounted for £399 if you can find stock but a manufacturer refurb with a 2 year warranty is unbeatable unless you can point me to a better deal? Mine arrived in mint condition and fully repackaged.

I think lock screen controls are disabled if you have AirPlay devices on your home network.

New gen is pretty much identical except for all white. Only tech difference I can see is quote "The Sonos Five has increased memory and processing power and a new wireless radio.” No microphone so wasn't worth the extra £150 IMHO.

I tried gen 1 I guess it was, I thought it sounded like arse :/ The Naim Mu-So I have sounds better, and that only cost me £399 refurb from that listing on eBay everyone is buying them off. However I barely use that now since I got the ELAC UB5s, I won them brand new on eBay for £280ish and won the ELAC Amp as well for about £250. I have to say they're the best sounding speakers I've ever heard that aren't sold for thousands.

I tried those HomePods as well when they came out, being locked to Apple aside, they're too heavy on the highs when you turn them up. There is no power in them what so ever, the bass fades and everything sounds super tinny.

Yeh it seems more just a design rebrand to bring it in line with the new range. Do you know what the increased memory and power actually enable? I can't seem to find any details about this.

Strange no native assistant support, given this was the primary difference between One and play:1.

Agree the great price difference isn't worth it – I could get this refurb for under £290 with my corporate discount. Still, I'd like to get the latest version whenever I get one of these, so will wait for the price to drop.

Terrible that they do that, like apple and iOS updates.
ive got 2 sonos ones already, is it worth me adding this?
I have to say the play 5: gen2 is by far the best speaker I’ve ever had 💪
