Not going to be hot but some people may find it useful! (UPDATE BELOW)

Good standard price on this KD55XF9005 with a great John Lewis 5 year guarantee. I am wary that this may go down further with the new Sony's coming out but its the best I've seen so far. JL also have quite a few decent Soundbar bundle deals if you are looking for one at the same time.

Further justification on this post:
If you mainly play games and worried about OLED burn-in, this is still up there amongst other 4K HDR LCDs. It continues to make the gaming performance lists alongside the must higher priced 2018 models with good gaming features (ie Samsungs).

Not too much of a difference in in it when compared with the Samsung 2018 flagship Q9FN:

The Q9FN is currently lowest of around £1600 on offer.

The Sony XF9005 is also Full-Array lit. I've seen many deals on here around £800 - £1000 for Samsungs Q7FN or Q6FN which are both Edge-lit. Since you can get this much better TV for £999, for me its a no brainer!

UPDATE:
Comments have indicated you can get this for the same price but with 6 year guarantee using code (RSTV100) on Richer Sounds: richersounds.com/sony-kd55xf9005bu.html

Enjoy!

I suspect other 55" tvs would have suffered the same fate and we should probably replace the child instead :p.Currently have a price match at JL on this for 999 (no longer need the price match!), and the Q9FN at 1,490 (against district electricals). Q9 is the better set, but not by a lot and probably not 50% better!

Your toddler broke the screen with the push of a single finger? I’m now worried about mine....

I'm pretty sure being poked by a child counts as misuse...

She 'drew a square '. To be fair we weren't in the room, but there were no toys nearby, a greasy finger trail on the screen (more a circle than a square, but then she is only three), and she's not really got lying just yet!

Currently investigating perspex screen protectors. Another £100 so similar to JLs accidental damage which we bought second time round (first time was home insurance). Set 2 only lasted two months though, so not sure how keen JL will be to replace again!!

To be fair, JL were very good and paid out as a gift voucher at the then retail price of 1,099, so the price drop has covered the policy cost.

Maybe!!

It's the lcd panel inside that's damaged, not the glass front. If I had any clue how to sharr a photo I would - currently watching Big Bang theory with a noughts and crosses board over the top!

Can you clarify what happened?

A finger did what to the screen exactly?

cheers

She pressed her finger against the panel and traced out a square. In so doing the inner lcd panel itself cracked leading to black/coloured horizontal and vertical bands of dead pixels originating from the centre of the screen where she poked it. There's also some starbust patterns in the immediate vicinity of the centre, which do not extend that far. The banding is gradually worsening.

My guess is that there was tension across the lcd panel surface and the finger pressure just provided a point of release. I've seen some claims relating to other 55" sets where screens have apparently broken in a similar way with no contact whatsoever, which would kinda support this. We had the accidental damage cover so haven't contacted Sony, but proving an inherent weakness in the set was the cause would be extremely challenging. Perhaps I'll contact them regardless, in case they've had others do so and want to check the set in some way.

That is worrying but good to know. Thanks for the response
This is a good TV in many ways but it has imo bad input lag for 1080p picture.

This sound bad for gaming then? Or does it have a dedicated game mode?

From what I understand because it is a native 4k TV, it has less input lag at 4k res than at 1080p. Meaning if you game on a 4k device you are ok, but for 1080p like a ninetendo switch for example, there will be a very slightly but noticeable input delay.
RTINGS is good for info on lag on various inputs

I have this and plays fine on 1080 without lag connected to pc. You wont be playing online competitive shooters on this anyway but it is a fantastic tv. Go for it!
