very tempted by this. especially since I can save another £80 through my employers voucher scheme
also comes with 5yr guarantee
Could be tempted too. But - is there any 4k content to watch (bare in mind my broadband is 1mb)?

Would I be better off with the non 4k version to save some money?

Amazon have tons of stuff, including oldies like ghost busters. If you go in-store go on to the amazon app and choose not to log in then I think it's about 4 across is a 4K section.

BT Sports 4k is avaliable:

Sony's HD 55" is £849, I'd say at £999 it's worth:

You're shafted for streaming - needs a minimum 15mbps.

4k Blu Ray looks like it might only just make it for Xmas now but will certainly be available not much later so depends on how often you change your TV...

8k isn't coming anytime soon simply because the tech to feed it is nowhere in sight outside of the development lab! Ignore halfwits who say there's nothing available for 4k, there is but only if you have the network to support it.
I agree buy 4k now

I bought a Sony x85 (albeit the 8507 version) two weeks ago as a replacement for a Dead Panasonic VT Plasma
I fancied the Android TV OS as it meant I could run Kodi and Plex apps on the device rather than with an external device...sadly these Sony Android TV's really aren't ready for market
The OS is sluggish, Apps are buggy and hit and miss...take the Netflix app for example..lovely 4k image but only supports 2 channel audio...dear me, Plex...again only 2 ch audio passthrough, no DTS or DD AC3, KODI works pretty well but isn't particularly stable
Half the time opening an app or menu option on the TV results in a blank page forcing you to redo the same operation again.
Using ARC to my Onkyo AV receiver seemed to work about 50% of the time, the rest of the time resulted in just crackling static noise until the TV was rebooted (not just turning it off and on....a full Android reboot taking 5+ mins)

Freesat channel changes take 15 seconds or so with a black screen between...USB recording hasn't yet been enabled by Sony and neither has the Youview TV guide leaving you with only BBC iPlayer for catchup...

I thought using Android OS on one of these would be like using a decent spec 'current' phone...in reality it's like using Android on one of those frustrating cheap chinese tablets with 512Mb Ram

To top it off the picture quality was nothing special...There is better image quality out the in this price range. So I took mine back after a week of constant disappointment.

I now have a 6 Series Samsung 55" 4K and it's a hundred times better, smooth OS, bug free apps and a FAR better quality image in SD, HD and 4K...

Currys were a little awkward about taking the TV back so make sure you really do check out the Sony Android TV's in store before buying...eventually i got a refund out of Currys quoting their misleading Advert stated the TV had Youview support...when in reality it doesn't yet.

Edit:...oh and don't just take my word for this TV being a little "Buggy"..

I have no doubt that this post will incur the wrath of the Sony faithful but I'm simply giving the opinion of someone who parted with £1200 for this TV only to be disappointed. I'm no Sony hater..I have countless Sony devices in my home already, TV's Consoles, Phones, Stereos etc....

Personally like Sony, unfortunately few of their models are not standing up to the name(after reading reviews in numerous video enthusiasts sites),still people fall for it,even in auction sites its sell for higher price, after reading and extensive search, finally settled down for 6 series Samsung.Finger crossed!!

I can't say much about your experience but it seemed pretty slick in-store (I played around with the plex app too). The reason I said that this is the best for the price is that the X85 has a better refresh rate (100Hz) than the Samsung 6 series (50Hz).
The Samsung 7 series has a 100Hz refresh rate but they are almost twice the price and as the guy in store showed me, not that much better for quality and lack the Triluminus (better colour) display that the Sony has.
Though the Samsung's do have Freesat built in where as the Sony's apparently have some weird unofficial satellite receiver thingy.

HDMI 1.4? It'll work fine up to 30Hz.
Watch out - Sony Android TVs are a sluggish nightmare. I got mine from John Lewis nearly three months ago but it's going back for a full refund because the tv OS is so poor. Picture is great but everything else is pants. If you decide to buy, do it somewhere you can return it when you're not happy with it.

To be fair Sony have been "Promising" updates and features on these TV's for months...
Most of these are still empty promises. If i was still waiting for a feature I wanted on one of these I'd take it back while I could...

If you pay for a quality product you expect it to work. If it doesn't work as advertised, then its not fit for sale and you are entitled to your money back. The reason why I have hung on so long is because Sony promised me they would sort the issues out via further software updates. We have had three software updates since I bought the TV and the issues are still not resolved. If you don''t believe me, take a chance and buy the TV yourself. You'll find its a very inferior product that was released to market before the bugs were sorted out. Only a mug would keep something that's not working properly. My latest update from Sony ( two days ago) was they now have no firm date for Youview - it was promised in early summer, then summer now its before the end of the year, USB recording was a similar promise and now might not be happening at all. Another fault along with the constant freezing and need for rebooting is that on Freeview the sound clips every five seconds - precisely. Once again Sony are aware but can't resolve it. There is a reason why these TVs are being discounted. So many are being returned as unsuitable. If you're thinking of buying, buy from somewhere you can return it otherwise you may regret your purchase.
Great price. I'd personally go to richer sounds and get them to beat the price by up to £100. they also 6yr guarantee included.

The TV runs Android as it's OS. So even using Freeview Android is still running there in the background

You need to go through the Android system. This TV really is clunky. You have to see it to believe it. Visitors can't believe how slow the tv is to switch channels. On the plus side the picture is great. 4K through Netflix is lovely, but unfortunately many of the advertised features don't work and have no hope of working. To be honest I like the 4K picture and my next tv will be 4K, but it won't be a 2015 Sony with Android. Android is dragging this tv down which is a shame because, Android on a set top box works great. I'm sure Sony will sort this out for their 2016 range, but I reckon they will abandon those with 2015 sets.

But the TV is still great at HD and why not futureproof yourself?

I tried that and they said it has to be 'like for like'. Because they offer 6 yrs warranty - they get out of the price promise on the grounds that this isn't like for like. Sneaky really ... the guy openly admitted that's why they introduced 6 yrs.
I have been reading about the issues with all these Sony Android TV's, it appears there are common issues of a slow OS, missing features (e.g. some catch up channels and youview) and lots of reports of DSE.
