I think TV's should ditch the smart idea and focus on the panel quality, and instead use a CAM like slot to add your own choice of Smart TV.. Fire TV, Apple TV, Android, Roku etc..

Last year's model? Unlikely you'll get it!
Agree its a bit odd...but I got my order confirmed at 14:32 today....so we will see, anything could happen with Currys.
The XF's are still over priced at the moment so fingers crossed.
It was also on next day delivery on Saturday.....I even called this AM and they assured me there would be a delivery.

I'm looking to get a new 4k TV, is this a good model? I can't find any review online.
I have similar. But bought much cheaper from Amazon. Voted hot

At this price it is.
Good motion handling
Game lag ok ( Samsung’s will be better)
Its edge lit so won’t be as bright as back lit but you are looking at xf9005 for that at £1799...this may drop to around £1400 mark like the XE9005 did last year . If you plan on watching lots of HDR content then spend more to appreciate it.

It works with Alexa if that’s any use

I was going to go for the xf9005 but at this price I will take this for a few years and see what happens to OLED.

It’s supposed to be a bit sluggish but improved during 2017. Tried it out in various stores on the 18 models and I could not find an issue with it.
Stand dimensions anyone? Cheers
Got something like this back in may for 1200

I have this set and when you first turn it on it takes around five minutes for the Android system to become usable, on initial power on you really can do anything with it not even change channel or inputs as it really struggles, I've got use to it now but would think hard next time about buy Android. Otherwise a decent 65" TV, HDR content is a little underwhelming due to the back light.

Interesting...I only switch from standby on and off and worked like you would hope.

Are you seeing this from total power off or standby?
Is this the same tv amazon sold for £659.00 if so please avoid. Let me explain to you that the picture quality is crap compared to Sony KDL series and it's been 2 months I had this tv but already have plague called backlight bleed (clouding) spoke to Sony they say it's the settings and it's my fault so I'm returning it back to amazon for a refund. I wish you the best of luck if you are thinking of getting this tv

Looking at rtings Xe85 scores 7.3 on movies and 7.4 on hdr movies.
Xf90 scores 8.5 on movies and 8.4 on hdr movies. The rest gameong etc are similar. I do watch movies

If you are happy with 55inch then get the 9005 any day of the week.
Assuming this TV has DD5.1 hdmi pass through?
I recently purchased the Sony 55” XF8096. Great picture, but the Android interface can become very laggy - allow 10’ between button presses, and sometimes takes 30’ to switch to/from the Home screen.

What is brilliant at the same time is the ability to side load many apps (.apk) which are otherwise unavailable from
Google Play.

I’m undecided whether the unparalleled flexibility of Android outweighs the very slow processing capability of the budget range!
Wow it is 10 bit panel hot
I saw someone mention this on AV Forums earlier today. It it wasn’t from Curry’s I would have bought it by now.

It is not the same tv, that was the step down XE70 series. The XE85 has had very good reviews. Back light clouding could occur on any LCD, just the luck of the draw.

Avoid, a better comparison would be last year's Samsung 65MU7000 or this year's 65NU8000.

agree the mu7000 if you can get one...but in real terms there is not much in it...
The nu8000 is still £1399 and I don’t believe its worth that at the moment.

Do you mean the one which isn’t being sold anywhere or the one which Argos is selong for £1399.00!! Not sure that’s very solid advice but thanks anyway champ.
Hot just bought also if your a student you get 10% from student beans. At £809 this is a steal.

The 7100 is the base model.
I’ve looked a long time at these TV’s and tbh at the sort of price they are all much the same.

The Sony will have (I hope) better motion handling...

I also considered the 8000 but could not justify the increase I price.

Merely a quality comparison so you can see what the Sony is equivalent to. I think you missed the point.

Yes and it'll work well over optical but will suffer unbelievable lipsync over ARC.

whats android like on this

Android runs basically flawlessly on my XE9305, this model is less powerful so cannot say for certain, but in my opinion all the critics of Android on Sony TVs are just trolling.

But, Android TV is disappointing, the app support is pants so you get no advantages over any other Smart platform and for some bizarre reason Google owned YouTube stopped doing HDR a few months back, there's no Google Photos integration, no Google Chrome. It's a pointlessly empty platform.

Given that all the 2017 and 2018 (released so far) Sony Android TV have the same Mediatek processor and it would seem unlikely one model would run poorly and another flawlessly...
