Following on from my post last night, this is the A550 also from Wilkinson Cameras, slightly better spec than the A450 and i still cant decide. I like the feel of the Sonys so at least i've made that decision (a decision I made that last year when I had a £275 clearance A700 in my hand and then didn't buy it - crazy but my MOT was due that day and didnt want to tempt fate)

Someone recently posted the A500 @ Jessops for £399, this is definitely a better deal.

This should be hot. It's a stunning camera at this price. I just upgraded to this from my A200 and the difference in handling and image quality is quite amazing. I didn't think I would be fussed about Live View, but Live View and that awesome high resolution screen is stunning.

The Alpha 550 might be the most impressive Sony SLR for a long time, but for all its fancy gadgetry you can't help feeling the whole isn't as great as the sum of the parts, and it's hard to see who it's aimed at. There's not many faster cameras in this class, but there are undoubtedly better ones.

This is no doubt why the price is falling.
I looked at Sony cameras last year and the overall feedback was the lens quality was lacking. Yes the lenses are cheap, but at high resolution the imperfections become more apparent.
For this money there are far better cameras to be had.

It's aimed at people like me who started with an A200 or similar and want more. Like a 14 shot frame buffer instead of 3. The built-in HDR which lets you expose correctly for sky and landscape without the faff of ND Grad filters. The much higher resolution screen which makes Macro composing a joy. I could go on, but in in short the camera is a joy to use.

i have this one for almost a year now. When I was about to buy my first DSLR camera I was confused between canon 500d and nikon d5000, but when I saw and hold this one in hands, I just could not let it go. This is a fantastic camera. I have paid 700 for two lens set, but this was worth every single penny. In my opinion it is much better then two others in that time. In picture quality ISO shots etc. It is not a competition for canon d500 but d50, and not nikon 5000 but 90, or 300

And the prices are going down because few new models from Sony. A560, A580 and A33, A55
