Probably the best deal in compact system cameras right now. I currently use Panasonic's micro four thirds cameras, but this is so much camera/image quality/autofocus speed for the money.

Cheapest it's ever been brand new with cashback.

The Sony Alpha A6000 Digital Camera Body in black builds upon the success of the NEX-6 and offers the performance and creative options of a full sized DSLR in a compact, ergonomic and stylish body. The A6000 with Sony E lens mount is built around a new 24.3 megapixel APS-C HD CMOS sensor with Fast Hybrid AF tracking system and a powerful BIONZ X image processor, that together ensure detailed image capture for both stills and movies. Users can enjoy stress-free, intuitive operation as they view scenes through the OLED Tru-Finder (with 100% frame coverage), which features a new optical system with four double aspherical lenses for enhanced visibility, a wide viewing angle, high contrast, high resolution and a clear view from corner to corner. Further to the above, the Alpha A6000 also features a built-in flash, multi-interface shoe, a 3.0” 921k-dot tiltable LCD screen and Wi-Fi and NFC functionality to simplify sharing and connectivity with mobile devices.

I can only see £100 cashback when you click the link on the site?

doh I mean £50

It's double cashback if you click the £100 cashback link on that page... but it's not super obvious until you click the Sony cashback offer which then mentions double cashback

Wwww.sony.co.uk/cashback/doublecashback
Copy and paste the link above and remove the extra W - HUKD is messing the link up as it so often does

Amazon is currently out stock but keep an eye as the price shoes as £424 with £100 cash back can have it for even less.

good spot.

Excellent deal but is digital depot covered within the retailers that cash back will be granted for?

Excellent price, not sure how I'd feel if I'd bought it the day before they announced they were doubling the cashback though

Really good camera, thoroughly recommended.

Sorry, I don't understand your point? This works out £349?

The cheapest price it has ever been for one of the best cameras in this category on the market.

Just four weeks ago, this thread got a fair bit of heat for selling refurbished ones for only £8 cheaper http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sony-a6000-plus-kit-lens-16-50-refurb-341-10-sony-outlet-2252045

This is brand new!

You don't have to get so defensive, I'm not criticising this deal I'm just telling others that they have them at John Lewis for £25 more... I don't know whether this seller is included in the cashback deal, I assume it is, but it's not listed on the drop down menu of the Sony claim form.
I've claimed £100s back using Sony cashback over the years and have never had a single issue, so I'm sure a Digital Depot purchase will be similarly easy.

Furthermore, the Outlet camera had an extra 10% off plus TCB which made the overall price £320ish, I should know as I bought the refurbished silver version, which was actually as new and had 19 shutter actuations.

In the scroll down bar Digital Depot isn't listed but perhaps they are covered under " other" . Also DD are showing a £100 discount on their web site.

Depends if you want to go mirrorless or not! The EVF/OVF issue is one to consider. But other than that, this camera basically does everything better than the Canon. However, a new 100d is rumoured, so I think it really depends on what glass you have invested. If you have a nice selection of Canon lenses then stick with that, if not and you fancy giving the Sony a go, then why not, go for it.

Cheers for the reply, not heavily invested in lenses, I pretty much use my 18-135 90% of the time

It's there a similar lens that won't require a second mortgage for the sony? Do you know

Best give this some thought...

I'm looking for a good point a shoot camera, is this a good option?

This would be a better option for you http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/sony-rx100-mark-1-279-now-with-double-cashback-219-after-cashback-john-lewis-2268500

The A6000 only really comes into its own if you want to add lenses in the future.

There is, but it will cost you http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-18200LE-18-200mm-F3-5-6-3-Magnification/dp/B0084YK0P4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1440279046&sr=8-1&keywords=sony+18-200#customerReviews

Having said that, you can get this zoom lens for £137 after cashback http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005JZ7YWS/ref=asc_df_B005JZ7YWS14855106?smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&tag=cpbcouk-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22206&creativeASIN=B005JZ7YWS

Of course it would mean changing lenses but give you a bit of extra zoom (315 equivalent compared to the 200 you have at the moment so over half again)

Body only. No lens.

Silly question, but this or a Nikon D3300 for a beginner?

Great deal thanks!

Looks like a possible misprice.

Not a silly question at all. Both are good cameras. As I mentioned earlier, look up if you want an electronic viewfinder or an optical one. I find the electronic viewfinders in modern cameras much better than the small, tunnel like ones you find on budget DSLR's like the D3300. Specs wise, the A6000 is much better, particularly its autofocus. Nikon have a good selection of cheaper lenses though. For me, I would go for the A6000.

According to the T&C on the Sony site:
https://campaign.odw.sony-europe.com/redemption/2015/uk-dime-cashback/assets/pdf/dime-cashback-TC-en_gb.pdf
8. The Cashback is only available on Sony Qualifying products which have been supplied and distributed by Sony to its authorised dealers within the UK

Digital Depot is located in Herts: SG1 3BG

If you pop the postcode into Sony's dealer search:
https://www.sony.co.uk/dealerlocator/search

You'll see they are an authorised dealer and thus eligible for the cashback offer.

TLDR: Yes.

Quite simply, the a6000 has a viewfinder which I find imperative for composition.

Fantastic camera. Previously had a Sony NEX 5T and this was a great upgrade. The viewfinder is a big bonus!

Now says backorder when you add to basket. Bummer.

Thanks OP. I have been looking to buy this. Great deal. I will grab one. Thanks for posting.

I'm tempted by this too ? but they are on back order at the moment , is there any other authorised Sony dealers around the same price that are selling the A6000 ?
Cheers

I have one of these from when they were first released. Excellent camera, easy to use for beginners. Also consider the sel 50 f1.8 and sel 55-210.

Either would be good, I've recently bought the A5100. The reason for this being the A6000 is long in the tooth and the A5100 is newer and incorporates the best of it's spec and some elements of the 7000. Also the focus speed is much faster on the 5100.

Ultimately it comes down to do you want a viewfinder, in my case I did but couldn't buy into the older model so compromised on the 5100. I'm very pleased with the results so far and I expect to buy a couple of lenses and later upgrade the body, so the lack of a viewfinder at this point isn't such a problem. That and the viewfinder on the 6000 is bizarrely and uncomfortably situated.

The current rumour is there's a new 6100 due out in the next couple of months but the spec is unknown as yet. HTH

I have this camera and love it! Nice and light, fast and an absolute beast! Get with the Samyang Fish eye!
